Hello andrew78, the Meyer Lemon I have is really short but extremely wide. Its about 4 feet tall and 5-6 ft wide. Its the older Meyer Lemon and Not the Improved Meyer Lemon. I would assume you wouldn't have to do too much vertical pruning to keep it short, maybe just prune the central leader at about 2-3ft if you want to keep it fairly short. If you bought your tree at a nursery, its probably grafted so you want to make sure you don't prune below the graft. My Meyer has blooms all the time but I do live in sunny San Diego. The cutting you take shouldn't affect the proportion of vegetative growth or flowering much, especially after it gets established. For cutting, there tends to be more Auxins (a plant hormone)around the nodes and this should help it root better. My guess is that those people on the citrus forum took a cutting around Spring or just before spring so with the increase in photoperiod, the tree would naturally start flowering. Because the tree has now used up so much of its energy to flower and fruit, there is little left over for vegetative growth, especially for a newly planted cutting that is still developing its roots. If you want your cuttings to grow vegetatively, just pinch the small fruits off to conserve energy. If you want your Meyer to produce year round, you can increase the photoperiod in the Winter with artificial lighting.

As Steve has mentioned your fertilizer is not ideal. It also appears as though your soil is retaining water, which is killer for Myers (which in my experience can be quite finicky in a pot). I would search the forum for 5:1:1 soil mixtures and repot the plant into this type of soil (which drains much better). Mixing sand into a potting soil mixture often complicates the drainage, and it is for these very reasons why so many folks on the forum are such supporters of 5:1:1 soil mixtures. As for your fertilizer, look up foilage pro and osmocote plus on the forum as well. Good luck! Zach

Meyer Lemons are grafted tree's. So,a seedling can be nothing like the parent - or better or much worse. Meyers are one of the commonest and least costly Citrus tree's sold. On the other hand..some people like the rolling the dice with seedlings. I've done it with Avocados and had good success. Cherimoya's and Mango's too.

You likely need to provide more light than one grow light and ambient window light. That said, it doesn't look unhappy. You will need to get a non-organic based fertilizer as the soil doesn't have (or is very limited in) the fungal or microbial growth to help process the organic fertilizer into usable form for plants. Osmocote Plus , Dyna Gro are two commonly used, which also have trace minerals necessary. Be careful with watering, as root rot is the common killer of all house plants. For sure, your plant needs to settle in (gets it's roots going into the pot) before you can seriously expect flowering and fruiting. And for it to hold fruit to maturation, usually is a few years after its been growing in it's pot.
