Tangerine leaves curling down

I have tangerine in half wine barrel planter. Many leaves are curling down. Some white spots on some under leaves. I didn't see any bugs. I cut the bad leaves off but new leaves are curling also. What's wrong with that? How can I treat it? Thank you in advance.

Sometime the cause is just a fast temperature variation during day or night.

In other cases it is poison of some sort, or even disease.

Wait a few months and see the evolution on the next flush.

You will not find any critters inside the curled leaves. As john wrote the tree's leaves have most certainly been damaged by insects causing the situation you show in your photos., Unfortunately, the damage will not recover, the leaves will retain a crinkled look for the rest of their lives. However, they will still supply some energy to the tree. At this time of year, the damage was more than likely caused by either aphids, or thrips. You can avoid this type of damage in the future by spraying new flushes of growth very soon after they emerge with a dilute soap solution, or a horticultural oil spray. NEVER spray the foliage of a citrus tree during the heat of the day. We spay all of our citrus trees several times with a 1 percent horticultural oil spray upon the advent of all summer flushes to avoid this exact problem. - Silica.

Oh my those poor things are so light starved! When you get long lanky leggy stems like that the plants circulatory system is badly compromised. Thus the symptoms with the leaves and long term survival is questionable. Do you really plant to keep and use so many plants? They need to be transplanted deep into cups burying all that bare stem right up to below the leaves. New roots will form all along the stem and strengthen them. But if you can't get them outside or get them much more light they will just turn weak and leggy again. It really is almost impossible to grow healthy transplants with only window light. A sunroom or greenhouse works, even a covered porch can. But not just a window. There simply isn't enough intensity or sprectrum. Dave

Looks a lot like Citrus Thrips. I had some on a young lime seedling and it took awhile to get rid of them. They're very small, and hide in the young leaf buds before they open all the way. When they do open you see the damage from the thrips as that crinkled curled look.

The best control for the home gardener would be Spinosad. It will get into the crevices of the new leaf buds and protect them. It is an organic product. The most available brand is Bonide's "Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew". It also works well against Citrus Leaf Miner, which you may get at some time in the future. It's good to have on hand.

Loosen the ties on your stake. They are only meant to be that tight for shipping. Let it sway it will give it strength.

If your tree is less than three years old, take off the fruit.
