Window placement for walkout basement renovation?
Comments (14)I'm not sure of the intracacies of your plan, but in any case, it doesn't appear like you'll have much opportunity to correlate a seamless design with the upper story. However, I wouldn't be so concerned here. I think if you can limit the focus on the garage door wall facade, and direct focus to a more substantial facade in-line with the posts, which then focuses attention upwards towards the 2nd story - if that is achieved you can do anything on the garage door wall face you want. So here could be a method to doing that - symmetry is not a goal in itself, but here it is a good solution because the deck beam supporting post locations make a mismash soup of the strong upper floor roof, post, and window symmetry. Since they can't be moved, making sense of the locations with faux columns while directing attention upwards makes the back wall more transparent....See MoreNew Build Window Placement Help!
Comments (23)Thanks again for the input! We wanting sliding type if its the skinny ones. I like lots of natural light which is why we wanting the extra windows. The neighbour doesn't have windows directly opposit from bedroom 1 but there would be a bit of garden inbetween in both side, low fence and their wall. Bedroom 3 would look out across the garage carpark area of the neighbours. I love big windows but i suppose the skinny might be better. How high would you put it and what width, about 60cm down? Do you think it must be inline with the top of the other window in the bedroom or could it go higher? Might look strange from outside if not inline with other windows on the same side?...See Morehow can I work around the window placement??
Comments (11)You can run the cabinets to an inch from the wall and simply ignor the window placement. Or, leave just enough room for a small table, wastebasket or decorator basket. I have a friend who simply covered an unwanted window with plywood. He drew the blinds, so, from the outside, you see closed blinds. On the inside, he was able to place his pantry cabinet on a ”wall” instead of in front of a window. Sometimes, it is ok to cheat....See MoreDining room window placement- new build
Comments (11)With two windows, yiu might be tempted to put a small table between them, and there will be less room for the person seated at that end. With centered window, When people are at the table, the person at that end will have room to move their chair, and a server will have room to walk behind them, since there will be no furniture behind them. OHOT, will there be bright light behind them during the day (brunch? summer supper?) making them hard to see? What is next door? What will be opposite the window? What would the view from, and into, either arrangement be? Consider the stairs, the family room, and kitchen in that, as well as what other windows are on the side: kitchen and upstairs....See MoreVith
