how can I work around the window placement??

My plan was to have an extended breakfast area w/ bottom only cabinets about 18 inches out from the wall. I wanted to run the cabinets and countertops to the end of the wall. We discussed moving the door and window back some to give me more room for my living room, however, I didn’t stress the plan to run the cabinets all the way to the wall. Unfortunately, the window is too close to where I wanted the countertops & cabinets. I need ideas of what I can do to solve this problem. Moving the window isn’t an option. The only thing I can think of is to not run the cabinets and countertops to the end of the wall, and use the space btwn the breakfast bar area and window for a mid/large decorative pot w/ a faux or real plant or tree to help block that the cabinets are cutting into the window seal area.

Ideas pls!!

You'll have to show more pictures of the space and a floor plan so we can understand the problem.

Are the new cabinets all on site or is that a random cabinet sitting there on the floor? What was the planif the cabonets were already ordered? A layout / floor plan with all dimensions will help you get the best advice.

I'm getting to a final plan for a kitchen with that issue -- 3 such windows in the kitchen work area, 2 in the dining area, plus 3 or 4 doorways, depending on how you want to count one former exterior doorway that was converted to a pantry at one point. I'm putting the range between two of the windows, with a unfitted cabinet on one side certainly, with shelves as palimpsest describes. They other side might be fixed, with a counter running across the window. All of those solutions plus blocking a window from the inside (shutters, then drywall) are pretty common in my neighborhood which has lots of houses with tall windows. I eliminated shortening the windows because it would have to go through historic district clearance and would mean trying to find enough old brick to match. Pictures I've seen here, on Houzz, and checking out real estate listings in the neighborhood to see what folks have done usually show leaving windows standing on their own, building in window seats, or running counters across.

I would put your sofa forward of the window wall with a console behind it. Place your TV on the opposite wall. I think your TV is a bit too high above the fireplace for comfortable viewing. Place your two recliners where the sofa is now with an end table between them. Flank the fireplace with two lower cabinets in scale with the space (closed doors) and hang family pictures above them without shelves. It's nice in a primary sitting room to hang art and photos lower.

If these are vinyl windows some of the cheaper brands dont fit tight against the sill and dont have good weatherstripping. If they are full screens you try putting a strip of pile weatherstripping there . If they are 1/2 screens you cut a piece of pvc to fit in the screen track to hold the screen down and tight. It should be cut so it fits snuggly into the track.

Lol i thought if that too except i paid alot of money to have it made the same as what they ripped off . it was all wood, did it all in white , sofit and gutters are new also, before i even thought of black windows. once i thought of that i ofcourse wished i would have done gray but what is done is staying .

You can run the cabinets to an inch from the wall and simply ignor the window placement. Or, leave just enough room for a small table, wastebasket or decorator basket.

I have a friend who simply covered an unwanted window with plywood. He drew the blinds, so, from the outside, you see closed blinds. On the inside, he was able to place his pantry cabinet on a ”wall” instead of in front of a window.

Sometimes, it is ok to cheat.

I have no idea I need to see how this space relates to the rest IMO right now there is no way to run cabinets up to the window . Why was the window put there at all with the door right there I think I would fight to have tha window removed it looks silly.

A carpenter could easily reframe the window opening to your desired height, add a bit of wallboard and you're good to go.

Now, what is on the exterior side? that would have to be dealt with but that might be pretty easy too.

Frugal solution: plantation shutters kept closed for a third of window. Then install your cabinets up to the wall.

What about running them to within 12"-18" of the window and then having open shelving at the end for plants (fake or otherwise).

How about a 24" low pull out drawer/bench with hooks on the wall? Then butt the cabinets up to the bench. Since there is a door there it will make sense.

I'd talk to your carpenter or contractor about closing up the exterior brick. That's not very hard, either. You don't have to abandon your idea of a full length breakfast bar, unless you like one of the other options better.

I had meeting to discuss cabinet layout. we used an existing cabinet so I could have a visual of what it would look like. I actually decided on what blfenton suggested. It doesn’t look as bad as I was imagining. In the near future I want to build an attached pavilion and change the door & window at that time. I can live with a plant there.
