Free-standing tub vs. drop in tub
Comments (6)We are going with a freestanding in our new master bath both because we like the looks and also with our layout it worked better. Given the cost of a good tiling job I'm not sure a built-in would have been less expensive than a standalone. We had 2 drop-in tubs (one to be removed with shower stall) and one of them still in-- acrylic-- which we put in 12 years ago and somewhat regret now because it flexes and the grout cracked over time so it has needed a lot of maintenance. (this is mostly because of the material we chose). But when our kids were younger they loved the bubbles!...See MoreFreestanding Air Tub - Need Recommendation
Comments (2)I'm just seeing this post this evening or I would have commented sooner. My Aquatic airjet has not been installed yet, nor is it free-standing, but my friend's is. Hers has claw feet and she loves it. She says the 'effervescent bubbles' are wonderful and the blower is not noisy. She loves the bathing experience. Her blower is remotely located under the vanity because of course, it would be seen otherwise. I don't know what the cost was but I'm sure it was nowhere near $8800.00. Go first to www.aquaticwhirlpools.com for product info. Then go to the link below which is to Ted at Old Tyme Hardware for pricing info. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about Aquatic (and other brands) and had very good prices. Tech Support at Aquatic (Jeff Nolte) has also been very helpful regarding installation techniques. Good luck, Anne...See MoreFreestanding Cast Iron bathtub 60" length
Comments (2)i just had my bathroom remodeled with a Victoria & Albert Roxburg. This is a 66" single slipper; I believe they have the same style with a different name in 60". I was nervous about buying without seeing it in person, but I'm so happy with my choice. The tub is gorgeous and high quality (volcanic limestone, not cast iron). I've taken 5, one hour+ baths already and the water stays hot! It is quite narrow, so I wouldn't suggest it for a large person. My contractor suggested Signature Hardware, but I was not comfortable with the unknowns on the origin (China, I think). I'm not familiar with the other brands. I went with a Rohl tub filler, which I also love....See MoreBest freestanding 60” bathtubs? Thinking acrylic?
Comments (3)Hi Jed: I have 2 freestanding tubs in my house (no issues getting in and out and I’m no spring chicken!). They are: Master En-suite: Fleurco Aria Voce Petite (I’m only 5ft tall) and it’s shorter at 55”: https://fleurco.com/bathtubs/voce-petite; Guest En-suite is Maax Louie at 58” long https://maax.com/en/product/louie-5829_106384/. The only thing I don’t like is the position of the drain (dead centre) - didn’t think of it at the time even though I sat in both models in the showroom (which is very important) but when you slide down to fully emerse, sometimes your bottom hits the pop-up drain and the tub begins to empty - am used to it now so it’s not an issue and I enjoy a soak in my tub every day. Another thing to think about is whether you have room to stand it far enough off the wall to access for cleaning the floor around, if not, many companies (such as Acritec) make tubs that are called semi-freestanding. They give the same design effect, but are attached to a wall. Lastly, for the tub filler, whether wall mounted or freestanding, get one with a hand held wand - makes it easy for washing hair and cleaning the tub! Hope this helps....See Moreleftfoot120
