First why a free standing tub at all. I always tell my clients to go get into and out of one it is not pleasant. In my experience those tubs look great but in most bathrooms do not even fit. I think it would be wise to post a floor plan here to even make sure one fits in your plan. Function is the first rule of design so make sure it is functional. As for the material I like acrylic for tubs easy to move into the spce look awesome and so easy to clean. FYI I grew up with a clawfoot tub and even as a kid hated getting in and out of it.

Hi Jed: I have 2 freestanding tubs in my house (no issues getting in and out and I’m no spring chicken!). The only thing I don’t like is the position of the drain (dead centre) - didn’t think of it at the time even though I sat in both models in the showroom (which is very important) but when you slide down to fully emerse, sometimes your bottom hits the pop-up drain and the tub begins to empty - am used to it now so it’s not an issue and I enjoy a soak in my tub every day. Another thing to think about is whether you have room to stand it far enough off the wall to access for cleaning the floor around, if not, many companies (such as Acritec) make tubs that are called semi-freestanding. They give the same design effect, but are attached to a wall. Lastly, for the tub filler, whether wall mounted or freestanding, get one with a hand held wand - makes it easy for washing hair and cleaning the tub! Hope this helps.

I bought mine which is acrylic off of Costco on line. That was a few years back. Came with tub, drain at the end of the tub and all the plumbing. Came to $1000.00. That included shipping. I don’t know if they still carry it or not. But I’m satisfied with it.
