I have to travel to Pa from Maryland on the day before for a wedding. My youngest daughter lives in the same city as the wedding so will spend the night and go out for a meal with her. Probably won't see my other two daughters but since they are mothers also they can spend the day with their families.

I don't think we are going to do anything special this year, except for the cards, emails and phone calls. In years past, we have done the greenhouse trips, either here or in the metro area, and going to a great lunch at Bachman's, etc. Most of my children all have grands now, so they are very busy with them, of course. Here we will probably attend the all-city garage sales on the Saturday before Mothers' Day, so that is fun. I have one DD living locally and she has a health problem now, so we don't do as much as we used to.

We will probably go to one of our favorite local restaurants. It isn't very fancy, more like a causal family place. What makes it special is it is all Greek food. We don't go out to dinner very often, only on special occasions. It is nice to have an evening off from cooking and cleanup. I also get to pick the movie we watch at home.

Nope. I'm not a mother, my mother died in 1970, and my husband's mother died in 1969. Not much to celebrate. Every year my younger sister sends me a mother's day card (she's big on sending cards for every and any occasion), and every year I ask her to please never do that again.

Oh I guess we'll drop into Joe's mothers and give her a gift, what I don't know because she is impossible to buy for. I am not a mother and my mom passed away in 1989 so it's not a big day for me.

I do, but I'm not sure what they are. I know we're going to Austin, but haven't made any reservations or actual plans yet.

Lindsey, I have never married, no children; but one of my friends always sends me a Mother's Day card and signs it with the names of my cats, or whatever pets I have at the time! It always makes me smile and if it gives her pleasure that's ok.

We are probably spending the day with the kids and twins. Not sure what we'll do, we're flexible and spontaneous usually.

Schoolhouse, there was a period of time when I desperately wanted to have children, but although I could get pregnant I never made it through the first trimester. So, receiving a mother's day card is a cruel reminder.

I'll probably buy my mom a planter for her apartment patio.

I will most likely spend the day in my quilt studio. It is a very sad day for me--my son passed away on May 5, 2006, and was buried two days before Mother's Day. So I am no longer a mother (except to our Yorkie), and I no longer have a mother. But I wish all the KT mothers a very happy Mother's Day!

its a bittersweet day for me, my mom passed 2014 and i miss her everyday :(

Hubby and I are going to Yosemite that day to look at the waterfalls. Dd who lives here can't miss work the next day so she gets a pass this year.

I'm so sorry for all of you who feel much sadness on this day.

We don't have kids. We will try to do something with DH's mom, but she may want to do it another day. My mom has died in 1999; I always feel a bit sad that day. We'll be picking up our other two kittens the day before Mother's Day, so I'll be celebrating being a kitty mom again.

Oh I'm sorry Lindsey and understand why you'd feel that way. I wonder why your sister continues to do that when you've expressed your feelings to her about it?

I was at a store today browsing Mother's Day cards and believe it or not, there was one "to Mom from the dog" and another "to Mom from the cat". Never saw those before! I nearly bought one for my own mom and sign the name of her Cavalier Spaniel, Charlie, and send to her. But I think it cost like $3.99. sheesh.

Nothing definite but probably will have DD and SIL over for BBQ which has become our "tradition" as I HATE going out to a restaurant on Mother's Day. I remember as a kid that we did it a few times and it was rushed, overpriced etc. My mom passed about 10 years ago. I have 2 daughters, one is about an hour away and the other is across the country.

I too will send sweet thoughts to Lindsey and Wanda and others who find the day a not very comforting one.

I am THE planner of the family. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Birthdays, etc., all planned and hosted by me.

I made a firm decision a few years ago though, one supported by my own mom, I have NOTHING to do with the mothers day plans.

That is the one and only day that I simply pass the buck.

I arrived at this decision on my second mothers day of being a mom. My family and I showed up at my parents house on Mother's day.

Mom had spent all morning making a nice lunch for us, I had spent the better part of the day before making a nice dessert.

My older brother had to be rushed to the ER due to a ruptured gallbladder.

As we sat around eating dinner and waiting for updates from the ER I looked at my mom and said, "isn't this mothers day?!?!? Why did WE do all the planning and preparation?!?"

So, to answer your question, I truly have no idea. It might be a Sunday like any other or we might be surprised with a gourmet meal....I just don't know.

The only thing I know is, it is one of the only holiday get togethers that I DON'T (correction...WON'T) have to plan for or worry about.

It will either be an awesome day planned entirely by my husband, dad and brother or it will be like any other Sunday.

Texas, I am totally with you. I don't "do" Mothers Day either. If the girls do something... even if just a card, or maybe more mundane, like a phone call, or present.... that will be GREAT. But if I again get flowers, with mums in them... I will again toss them in the garbage. I can't have them in the house. Very VERY allergic.

One of my daughters usually gets creative, the other... well, she is just plain different.

Again, the one, she had her daughter on Mothers Day. Last year, they went on a mother daughter bike ride... just the two of them to "celebrate". But I have to say, my son in law makes sure there are presents from the kids!

It's just another day of the week for me. I don't make a big deal out of birthdays or other minor "holidays". Other than Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving where the whole family comes together for a nice day and good food. I'm just happy to get a card for my birthday and Mothers Day. I know my kids love me 365 days a year, so I don't need that special day.

All of my life we have always celebrated Mother's Day. When both of our Mothers were living we went to both places on Mother's Day and the whole family would be there. We would also do the same for Father's Day. I hope you all have a very nice day on Sunday.

On a cruise ship off the west coast of Mexico on our way through the Panama Canal.

I always wanted to buy my Mom a corsage for Mother's Day to wear to church - she would pull a face and say, "No one else wears a corsage!". I don't see why not, and she'd wear it if bought one for her; but I don't even consider buying her one anymore. Do ladies at your church still wear corsages on special occasions?

I do send a card and buy her flowers to plant out or whatever she likes. My brother and sister-in-law bring her a bouquet or live plant.
