Thank you! I knew I planted platycodon, but was obviously mixed up about which one it was...which leads me to ask, what is this that I thought was the platycodon then? LOL

carol23, Thanks! I knew it couldn't be filipendula ulmaria, as I have a double type of that, and the leaves aren't the same. But your suggestion caused me to look up other types of filipendula, and I think the mystery plant might be filipendula vulgaris--which has more ferny leaves. Thanks again.

Not sure I would (say it was a delph)...but mainly because the stems of delphs always appear well-formed and visible with that amount of foliage...and that fat, pale stem would be the decider, to my mind. Of course, we are looking at a foreshortened image and, in truth, I would really only put money on something from the ranunculaceae family without further evidence.

Yes, I think you're right. I do remember planting some. Thank you. I moved these both from a bed where they were languishing into full sun. Don't remember either of them blooming last year, so hopefully they will like their new spot.

And hopefully they will make good companions as they are right beside each other. Do these plants generally need staking?

Neither need staking in my garden but you might want to watch out for the peach-leaved bellflower...it likes to self sow all over.

Thank you for the info...and the caution. Right now in this new garden I can use some self-seeders. Hopefully I won't live to regret it. : )
