White Hexagon Floor Tiles - What Color Grout Did You Choose?
Comments (7)Thanks! It was a nightmare DIY project (moved shower and toilet locations which involved gutting the floor and beefing up the joists and tying into old 1926 plumbing. Ugh.) but we loved the result, especially at the ~$1200 price tag! Believe it or not, it's about the cheapest Lowes/Home Depot tile you can get. I really wanted the classic small penny tile but I couldn't afford it! I can't remember the brand... I just searched on line but can't find it. It's ceramic, and is actually an octagon-and-dot style in all white (it's more common and home-depot looking in the black and white pattern, around here.) I think the repeating pattern is about 4" x 4" and it's on 12" sheets. It was very afordable and the finished look was great. It also feels nice on bare feet, and was easy to keep clean. Sorry I don't know the exact brand/stule. We moved and I left the extras for the new owners......See MoreWhich White Grout and Which Sealer?
Comments (14)In my "old" :*( kitchen I had those white arabesque tiles. And the grout was very important to the design to give it the right look. I really needed a true white grout. What I learned from Bill V was that a lot (if not all) of the grouts have a caramel coloring in their "bright white" mixture. If there is caramel in the mixture it's in the finished product. There is a product from Latricrete that is called Permacolor. The white was very bright white. Didn't stain, didn't need to be sealed. I suppose you could seal it, but we didn't. If I splashed sauce on it, I could wipe it off, or at least make up a mixture of oxyclean and water and get it off. We are going to use the Permacolor grout in our bathroom. They have made more advances with it as far as the colors and other things the tile guy told me. good luck!...See MoreWould white hex tiles/grey grout be too busy for large bathroom?
Comments (21)Thanks oaktown! Those are great pics. I very much appreciate your thoughts! I am reconsidering keeping the concrete floor. But I am worried that the concrete will stain with constant water exposure. Also, if there ever is a water main leak, it might be easier to hide any sawcut marks by replacing tile. The other reason I was thinking of tile, is I want to do the whole house in the new concrete flooring. This will be very expensive and may have to wait for a year. It might put off finishing the bathroom until then, unless I do tile....See MoreGrout color and/or sealant for matte Heath tile backsplash?
Comments (18)If you search under sealing crackle tile, which apparently does need to be sealed, at least after install and before grouting, you might find some product help. I'd also test any sealer before sealing, if Heath doesn't have a product rec for their glaze. ETA. As explained to me, by my DD, a ceramics student, glaze, whether matte or gloss, becomes a type of glass, when fired, that covers the clay body. Crackle tile is a glaze type that deliberately mimics "failed" glaze, glaze that has crazed and will allow staining of the clay body. That's why a sealer is placed over it, a double glaze, if you will, that shouldn't be required for a properly glazed tile. I think, with my handmade tile, it's handmade, and they can't guarantee some unexpected glaze failure on a given backsplash tile. So, their response when asked about sealing was, "ok, if you want" but they didn't recommend it, as you are saying Heath does. I'll try not to spit barbecue sauce onto my backsplash. ☺...See Moremark_rachel
