St Augustine for Shade and how to sod it.

So, I'm thinking of taking the St Augustine plunge in my backyard in North Texas (40 miles north of Dallas)

I've got some pretty shady spots under trees that I am trying to address

The things that I am not sure about

  • Which variety - I might not get 5 hours of sun in some of these spots - dappled at best
  • should I level with sand first?
  • Do I kill the existing weeds and what's left of the Bermuda first? (shady spots)
  • The sunny parts of the backyard are Bermuda and doing well. should I just mow high and expect the St Augustine to take over? is there a happy medium?

Thanks in advance for the help!
