Do you use towel hooks or bars? This is the big decision:)
Comments (10)This is just great feedback from all of you. I just now went online and found a gazillion robe hooks but was able to eliminate most based on the advice given from your experience....looking for that deep hook that will hold the towel and keep it away from the wall for faster drying. I'm definately going with the hooks in the shower...and probably a bar in the tub area. Love the train rack idea with hooks but the budget won't let me do that one. Folkman, I'm impressed that you are a bar man and appreciate the look of a nicely displayed towel...I'm married to "drop man", but he has a lot of other fine qualities:) Thanks everyone!...See MoreMaster Bath Towels--What to do with them
Comments (18)I have a train rack with shelves and hooks. Towels in use are on the hooks, towels that are clean are stacked on top. I also have hooks just outside the shower, for towels to reach for when stepping out. Sometimes DH leaves a towel there, but it doesn't look bad because I placed the hook well (design wise). I installed all of my towel bars, train rack and hooks as well as mirrors etc. Only one was a bit lose after using the appropriate fasteners for the wall area (ie different if you're going into a stud verses drywall only). The lose one is a glass shelf. I had to take it down and use a better wall anchor than the one it came with (I don't ever use the plastic ones....you can buy lovely metal ones by the box). I am not a neetnick by any sense of the imagination, but if DH left a towel hanging on the glass door I'd consider spousal abuse. I didn't build an elegant master bath t have it look like a gym. If the towel bars are wonky...it's a VERY easy fix, which you can do yourself, and recapture the lovely room :)...See MoreWhat drywall anchors do you like and use?
Comments (10)Blocking is prefered, but Molly bolts are the next choice. Plastic sleeve anchors that expand are not really suitable for drywall. The pressure of the expanding sleeve simply fractures the gypsum core. The large screw thread plastic anchors for drywall are a little better, but are really for light duty (smaller pictures and such) and not something that is touched and used on a daily basis (like a TP holder, sink cup holder, etc). The leverage of the item protruding from the wall WILL eventually cause the anchor to come loose. While many of the anchors have decent shear ratings, the withdrawal ratings of most are poor. Molly bolts expand the area the load is applied to behind the drywall and have a much better withdrawal rating. If you yank a Molly bolt out you will make a hole at least an inch across in the drywall. If you use Molly bolts enough there is a very nice setting tool that expands them by pulling the screw instead of turning the screw. The setting tool is usually under $20 if you can find one. The setting tool is almost required if you are using molly bolts in plaster. The little 'teeth' designed to limit rotation while tightening the screw do not work in plaster or hard material....See MoreWhat do you do with towels?
Comments (12)No need to throw out bath towels or relegate them to the rag-bin for fading or stains or color deterioration/change. It doesn't prevent them from working. Tears and physical deterioration, yes ... rag-bin. My dad once found some nice bath towels in the adjacent neighbor's trash at the curb. No wear or anything wrong with them except a couple had a slight discoloration along a fold-line. He kept a couple, gave three to me. We figure they had tossed them out upon doing a bathroom redecoration. Goofy! The discoloration on the ones I took cleared after several washes (I routinely use hot water and either oxygen or chlorine bleach)....See Moredeeinohio
