organization in a sewing room
Comments (1)One of these days I'm going to redo my laundry room and make space for my sewing machine. Seeing the comic box idea and thinking of the larger size of vintage patterns (and any pattern that has been unfolded and doesn't fit in its original envelop very well any more!) I think I would like a drawer where plastic bagged patterns could be *filed*. I'm giving this room a lot of thought because even though its one of the smallest in the house, its one of the busiest - important activities take place there daily (well, they would if it were organized). I dream of fitting it out like a yacht or a motor home. Super efficient! A few IKEA cabinet, similar to the ones I have a few steps away in the kitchen would keep sewing, laundry, and pantry overflow neat and tidy. Maybe next year . . . I enjoyed the Dress a Day website  thanks for sharing, Tally Sue. Elizabeth...See MoreGame room organization help needed-major dust trap
Comments (6)I can relate. We ended up turning over a basement family room to my oldest for a bedroom and hanging out spot for all of the guys. Frankly, I just kept a path cleared to the laundry room and kept the door closed. He's lucky I didn't kill him when he moved out. In regards to the dishes, I just let him know that if I picked up dishes, I'd throw away anything I wanted, so the boys all made a point of getting that stuff back upstairs. He moved back home for a couple of years and is clearing out again this week. I let him know this time that if he left any mess for the rest of us to clean, I'd be taking the money for my services out of his account (which I'm on.) Really, it was a good trade-off. The room was a mess, but since it was the lowest level I didn't have to look at it except for a few minutes a day. Ours was a walkout basement, so the boys didn't even have to bother us to come and go. Knowing where a dozen 19 year old boys were at midnight on a Friday night was worth the aggrivation. I'd focus on getting your work space more comfortable. Gloria...See MoreRanch Reno: should I give up powder room for a laundry/mud room
Comments (2)Both powder rooms and laundry rooms add a ton of value to a home. I suggest you talk to a local realtor and see how these changes would impact your home value. My guess is that losing a bathroom will hurt your value, even in exchange for a laundry room so I would try to at least keep it as a powder room. But ask someone in your local real estate market to see....See MoreThoughts of better organization of powder/laundry space
Comments (6)localeater, we have a powder room accessed through the laundry, and while it's functional for use with kids, us working inside and outside, it's NOT my preferred guest bath. My laundry room isn't all THAT tidy and besides the litter box is in the area, too. But, I'd rather walk through the laundry to the bathroom than walk through the bathroom to the laundry. Of course, it could be just one big space. I toyed with that idea for our remodel, but got no love on it from DH. We have another bath in a first-floor guest room/study, but, well, when we use it as a study it's not all that tidy either lol. If you can do Mark's concept, it makes more sense and makes better use of space and gives you lots of storage in the laundry. Use the coat tree! Love that!...See Moredietitian
