'Black Beauty lily' - resistant to red lily beetle?
Comments (1)Hi, I have Black Beauty Lily. I think I moved it and I didn't see it bloom this year, but I bought it because of those reports that it was less effected by Red Lily Beetles. I was disappointed to see damage on it. Was it less damage then others? Well, maybe. The leaves seem thicker than my CasaBlancas, so maybe that's the reason. But still, they didn't look very good with the damage they had. So, I think the focus still needs to be keeping the RLLB in check, rather than finding plants they don't damage. Sorry....See MoreRed Lily Beetle
Comments (21)Are these the same red beetles that can often be found on roses? And they drop to the ground as soon as you disturb the plant? I had them last year, and did my best to drop them in soapy water. I saw a few this spring on my Emily Carr rose and I hand picked and squashed those ones. Fingers crossed that they don't become a real problem this year. I cleaned up and destroyed all the leaf litter from last year, so I'm hoping that might have helped. And I think I might have Japanese Beetles. :( It is either that, or Dogbane beetles; they are shiny and green/gold. There was a pile of them sitting on my mountain ash, so I'm guessing they are probably Japanese beetles since I think Dogbane stick to munching on dogbane or milkweed and I don't have either. Sigh. Have to go and try to drown those today, too. I hope it doesn't rain again....See MoreRed Lily Beetles
Comments (11)I saw my first lily leaf beetle today on a tiger lily. There were no obvious holes on the leaves and no other lilies were touched, even though a couple lilies are several feet high. I dispatched the beetle with a permethrin spray, but didn't spray any other lilies (too many bees around). Claire...See MoreRed Lily Beetles
Comments (56)In my yard it seems to be an issue of location, location, location. I'm only seeing the beetles on the tiger lilies in one corner of the yard. They haven't reached the other tiger lilies scattered around other parts of the yard and none of the other lilies by the house. I suspect a new infestation flew in and settled where it found some lilies. I figure if I can wipe these out I'll be OK next year. I'll probably do a soil drench with a Bayer's product.
