Need layout advice (for small office) - IKEA

Hopefully I'm not breaking any rules by posting this here. This does involve layout, walkways, IKEA cabinets, so I didn't see other forums where it would be more appropriate.

I'm currently putting together a new office. It's a small room and needs to accommodate 2 desks.The proposed plan is below. I'm concerned if there is enough room behind the desks and in walkways to be comfortable or if I need to get smaller desks. Open to other opinions on layout too.

I listed what I currently have and what I think I need to get. I would like to use what I have, but only if it works. I will be near an IKEA this week (a 4 hour drive) and would like to pick up some items I need to complete this space. I only get one shot unless I want to drive 8 hours round trip to make returns and repurchase. I'm definitely looking for product recommendations. Also, it does not *have* to be IKEA.

The current layout provides enough file storage. There will be a small printer on top of the lateral file and a larger network printer outside the office door.

I would like some wall cabinets (planning to install above the fridge/lateral file) and wondering if the BESTA line would be sufficient or if I should buy the kitchen line (or just something off the shelf from Lowes/HD. Something like the simple white shaker or raised panel would be fine. I was planning to put some open shelving on the wall above the desks.

The back wall (across from the door) is a wall to wall window that starts about 4' up from the floor. The rectangle in the back right corner is a column and next to the door is a floor to ceiling internal window.

Need to purchase:

Hon 3 shelf metal bookcase in Putty (34-1/2" w x 12-5/8" d x 41"h) to handle heavier items
Base (legs/drawers) for desktops (Alex drawer unit and Sjunne legs?)
Open Shelving (Ekby Valter brackets?)
3 Wall cabinets (Besta shelf cabinets or Sektion or off the shelf from box store?)
Extra chair (PS 2012)

Already Have:

2 birch IKEA desk tops: 63" x 29.5"
2 Navy Hon desk chairs
Hon 2 drawer lateral file in Putty: (36"w x 28-3/8"h x 19-1/4"d)
Stainless Mini-fridge Danby (21-1/16" x 20-8/16" x 32-11/16")

How fun to design an office! I like the idea of facing the desks to each other. I'm thinking it might be better to put them under the window; no one has their back to the door and there might be less glare on your computer screens if they're perpendicular to the window. Distance between desk edge and the wall is really personal preference, but I think around dining tables it's a 32" minimum if no one needs to pass behind.

I'm not sure if your existing desk tops can be paired with the Skarsta bases, but we really like our Skarsta. The base is adjustable with a hand crank so you can easily move your desktop up and down so you can sit/stand. It's nice to change position if you're working at your computer for long periods.

With your desks below the window I thought you could put the file cabinet at the end of the desks and the guest chair in front of the interior window.

We use Elfa from the Container Store in our home office and are very pleased. They can handle a lot of weight and you can design the shelves to work around your fridge. You can also hang varying depths of shelves (e.g. you could have shallow shelves above the fridge, but deeper shelves at counter height and below for a standing work surface and larger item storage if you need it.)

Here’s design 3. Downfall is the designer didn’t add a pantry cabinet Or a microwave. Two massively important items. Also concerned with the sink in the island. To me an island is for entertaining and laying out food, not for a main sink with washing drying etc. also the small space/walkway in between work area and around the island.

I consider a chrome faucet a neutral and IMHO goes with most everything. Same with your glass door hardware. I would do chrome rather than ORB. I’ve shown you pics of the house I did for my daughter previously but don’t have a good one of the faucet together with the black Ikea Bagganas hardware we installed. We initially bought chrome cup pulls but switched to a simple black. Are you considering the black cup pulls in the kitchen you like? I do not think that the white quartz would make it look like a huge monolithic expanse at all. It may be a better choice if you are seriously considering the turquoise tile. I think either black or brass would look great. Not sure about mixing. I found it extremely helpful to snap a picture of my room and then paste the lights and hardware I’m considering using MS Paint. Helps to see it all together. It would also be a good idea to start a new thread in Kitchens and Home Decorating related to finishes so possibly some of the pros can chime in. They can give better advice than me about mixing metals. I have chrome on my main floor and just added antique brass to my pink powder and laundry.

So I like your ideas. I would definitely talk with a contractor and then a kitchen designer. My whole concept hinges on whether you could change the glass wall/doors so that the doors are on the other side. If it’s a whole unit (which it look like it is) you may be able to take it out and flip it upside down. So then what you would be able to do is run cabinetry all the way down and possibly build in the rad. Give a seamless look and takes advantage of all the vertical wall space for storage. Also the sofa would be jammed in the that area giving you a better view of the outside and there wouldn’t be any glare on your tv. It also allows for the peninsula to be a little further down which would allow the addition of a microwave cabinet which could be put on the end with the pantry next to that so it won’t encroach in the doorway. It also allows more room in the kitchen for two people. And I’ll also mention that the sectional I’m showing is really deep. Unfortunately, the program I’m using doesn’t allow me to change the size but you could go with something smaller in scale.

Thanks for info. Your other stylish rooms offer a good guide to what you like. I suggest going for spacious elegance rather than glam for your office. Your wood desk is clearly in full use and has nice color that matches the stairs' wood. Start by removing all the art, lamps, floor lamps, knickknacks and anything smaller than a basket ball. Put them all on the dining room table for a while to be out of the way. Then trade the wood table with the chair-with-occasional-table. Put the shiny black lamp back on the desk. If you love the New York skyline print, hang it back up. Then pick some new bold graphic artwork (same strong impact as your art in the dining room) for between the sconces. Add one bowl or decorative item to the console table. Store the rest of the items to rotate every few months with the change of seasons. Fresh flowers or green houseplants that give an air of thriving life are much more attractive than fake greenery. A gorgeous coffeetable book or nothing at all on the occasional table would be much better than piles of books. A fine old edition, if you prefer those to coffeetable books, could be showcased on the console table. If you have a second chair to match the first, bring that in for guests. Remove the coffee table which serves no purpose.
