We've got the counter depth FD version of the fridge. The external water is OK, but slow--probably an ounce per second. I guess that's normal, but it's the first one we've had. If there was a choice, I'd probably take just the ice dispenser and forgo the water. But our water is pretty good from the tap anyway. I do find the cover of the internal ice dispenser tends to fall off if you're not careful. We've also had to play with the temp settings a couple of times when the water line froze up. I've been a little disappointed in the integrity of the bins, etc., a couple of them are cracked already after only a year and a half. I LOVE the bottom freezer style, we're able to keep the fridge so much cleaner when everything's eye level. The counter depth helps too, no more mystery science experiments hiding in the back. We got the french door because we thought it would give us better clearance with an adjacent angled cabinet, but truthfully I'd prefer a single door.

We purchased a Samsung French door refrigerator - Model RF24FSEDBSR/AA - in November 2014 (now about 2.75 years old), and have had, along with evidently countless others, problems with the ice maker, which quit working just after the one year warranty period was over ... soft ice cubes, water and crushed ice build-up in the chute, dripping water, and massive ice build-up in the back of the unit that evidently blocked the fan and eventually burned out the motor. The first appliance repair company called would not service a Samsung refrigerator (wonder why); the second came out three times ... went through all of the Samsung "service bulletins" in regard to this issue and eventually said they would not continue trying to fix it and to call Samsung (we paid for one service call with this company, the other two were gratis). Samsung "Support" set up an appointment with one of their locally contracted appliance repair companies - we paid for the service call and their assessment was that we needed a new fan/motor. On the next service call he brought and installed the new part. We paid for the part, something like $140. Shortly after the "repair", the unit again began to fail and we called again (after cleaning out the ice build-up several times). The part was guaranteed for three months, but we did not realize this and called again just after the three month period. The solution - again - to replace the fan/motor in the ice maker. We paid again for the part, and the company kindly did not charge us this time for the service call. Fast forward two months, and the ice maker unit is failing AGAIN - we've melted out the ice build-up two or three times in the last six or seven weeks. Over the last few days, a new issue - the "Twin Cooling" unit in the back of the refrigerator has failed - ice build up in the "Twin Cooling" unit, the fan died, and the refrigerator now keeps a temperature of around 50 degrees. The drawer and the freezer are still maintaining a safe temperature, so we are using those alone while we search for another refrigerator; given that we've paid upwards of $500 for repairs that did not work we are not willing to sink more money into repairs. I've read that they have since improved the ice maker, but have made no move to my knowledge to recall or replace defective models or parts. Needless to say, we are not seeking to replace this refrigerator, or any other appliance, with a Samsung model.

Ice through the door is important to me. I like not having to open the door to fish for cubes. We have the slightly older LG with the larger icemaker in the door and I can say that the look of the newer one is preferable. It seems as if they have pushed the icemaker further into the door, compressed it somewhat, and left room for small shelves. Those shelves would be a help, particularly if you are getting a cabinet-depth model. Our LG has a quick recover for the icemaker. If we run it dry in an evening we are usually back to full or close by the next morning. I would not expect the newer model to make ice any slower, but I will say that the storage capacity looks pretty tight. If I were you I would plan on keeping some extra ready-made ice around in the freezer to refill the bin when you entertain. Otherwise, we have found our refrigerator to be very quiet, almost trouble free (the ice dispenser can get clogged up with stuck ice cubes, but that is really rare and easy to clear when it does happen.) The food stays very fresh and everything is easy to get to. Overall we are happy with the LG and have not experienced any of the problems that people were reporting about them a few years ago.

Well, that's all good but what do these temps mean? Is 105F what ATC tries to achieve during a warm wash fill or during the main wash cycle. If 105 is the target fill temperature then it really means nothing in a low-fill front loader because the washer will probably move from wash to rinse before the heater has had a chance to bring the water back to the target temp. That's the thing with all these new washers: yeah, they might use the heater on every cycle but if the initial temp in the tub is too low, don't expect the heater to boost it up to 120F if the main wash is strictly time-controlled. Unless you get a Euro-brand like Miele, Bosch or ASKO or select a cycle like "Sanitary" or "Allergen", most washers will just move on with the cycle if the main wash time for the selected soil level has elapsed. It seems the only way to get a hotter wash is to select either Whites or Heavy Duty combined with the heaviest soil level plus options like Steam or Stain Treatment.
