Comments (23)Good list, gazania. There's quite a variey of geography. I remember after Dad had made a couple of trips between Ontario and Saskatchewan, he said that the first trip through Nothern Ontario was rather thrilling, and beautiful ... but that after the first trip, it was pretty well just water ... and rocks ... and trees. I guess he didn't have much of the artist in his eyes. I hope to make the Banff to Jasper trip some time ... I visited Jasper when I lived west of Edmonton and travelled the road between Calgary and Vancouver in my VW Bug in '58 on my return to Korea. I've visited B.C., lived for a while in Saskatchewan and Alberta, visited Manitoba and Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia (including the Cabot Trail around Cape Breton). But, to my regret, I've never been to Newfoundland and Labrador. I'd better get busy and visit there, while I'm still enjoying good health and could enjoy it well. If some feel like making a visit this summer, we'll be glad to see you. ole joyful...See MoreOle joyful's joyful
Comments (44)Actually, when you have to have a 4-year-licensed driver sitting beside you ... and can't drive on the freeway ... and not between midnight and 5 a.m. either ... ... somehow, one gets the feeling that one has arrived at one's second childhood! ole joyful...See Moreole joyful's recent adventures
Comments (9)Skunks and highways don't mix well ... and when they've tried, usually there's a reminder for later travellers for a time. Coons don't, either. Or dogs, for that matter ... and this f c doesn't mind running angleways over the road, ahead of the car: she hasn't been trained how to manage, around cars. (Skunks, either, for that matter). I took the course that stockbokers take, thirty years ago ... but there was some downturn in the markets and brokers weren't hiring. I got on with a mutual fund broker a couple of years later ... compensation totally by commission ... but after a year I hadn't sold enough to suit the second tier guy above me ... so was "decommissioned". Some years ago a parishuioner in the post office one day thought it a bit odd that his clergy person subscribed to "The Financial Post" ... ... and I allowed as how it was my impression that bread cost me the same price that it cost him. So I worked for years as a personal financial consultant selling no financial products - folks didn't need to watch me closely, to see whether I was talking out of the side of my mouth that dealt with what was good for them ... ... or the side of my mouth dealing substantially with what was good for me. When I worked for the mutual fund broker, there was a guy there who'd been a fee-only planner for some time prior to that, and he said that was a good way to starve ... and I somewhat agree. People claim that they'd like unbiased advice ... but wonder why they should pay me ... for advice that they can get elsewhere ... for free. "Free", huh? Most financial planners are actually sales-peiople ... for insurance or mutual funds ... or, in recent years, stockbrokers, as well. I'm in London, need to get my diuretic prescription refilled, and meet the mutual fund guy in a half hour, so ... ... see you all later. ole joyfuelled...See Moreole joyful's current dilemma
Comments (72)Newest update ... ... I did finally get around to sewing one of the new elastic free-flowing girdles the other day, when I anticipated a need. I sewed (at one end) a sextuple thickness of hem from an old sheet to the yard-long piece of elastic from the dollar store. Since I'd found that I'd never used the hook and loop (read "Velcro" substitute) on the original, so wouldn't have an option regarding length if I sewed the other end ... ... I tied it down with safety pins, till I got a handle on its tautness ... and my resultant comfort, as secondary issue when considering the main task needed. Works - so far. And another breath-taking piece of information learned on Sunday afternoon, when visiting my friend's house (who's familiar with this situation). Telling me that he had earth-shaking news, he rose from his seat and demonstrated the latest thing in men's lower-level underwear ... ... a drawstring! Who wouldda thunk! Now ... why didn't I think of that ... and patented it: I'd be set for life! Don't anyone tell the underwear maker, please, that, the elastic being the shortest-lived part of the underwear project ... ... that ones with drawstrings'll last much longer ... ... resulting in fewer sales!! Or they'll deep-six the whole idea! ole joyfuelled (with a bit o' help from a coookie or two, on occasion)...See MorePKponder TX Z7B
