Happy 89.5 Ed. And I hope we are ALL around to wish you a happy 90th. edited to add: yes you can freeze the cake. I wrap fairly large pieces (uncut) in plastic wrap or a ziploc getting as much air out as possible. Then wrap again in foil. Label and freeze. Depending on how much you have left, you could freeze multiple packages to enjoy later, just don’t wait too long or it will be dry.

Ava, after that no-start on the nearby road a couple of weeks ago, I wondered whether it should have more reserve power and asked my garage man about it. He said that it should have had more reserve and that I need a new battery. It wouldn't start one morning about ten days ago, I couldn't find my charger till later when I'd put on warmer clothes. It's worked fine since but the past couple of days the temp has been around 0 (18 below, Celsius), so I gave it a few hours trickle charge last night and a few hours again this evening. If it gets close to discharge in this cold weather, the weakened acid may well freeze, and split it. Not desirable. I think that I've had this charger for about 40 years and doubt that I've used it more than a dozen/(two dozen?) times. Can't exactly accuse it of bring lazy, for it's been ready to work when called upon. I've been wondering about giving some neighbours and friends my phone number, saying that if they lack roadside emergency service or an available boost, if their battery's low and there's an electric plug within a hundred feet, I may well be able to come give them a charge - or a boost: I got some mid-range jumper cables about the same time that I got the charger. Thank you very much, Kris. I've had some health problems, but they haven't caused more than minor reductions in what I can do, and thankful every day for that. Good genes, I think. Started to smoke at 15, after a few months liked neither the taste nor the cost - so had sense enough to quit. Daughter, who has dual citizenship, her mother being from Iowa, has spent most of the last 20 years or so in the U.S., most of it in Phoenix, recently moved to the Atlanta area, her husband being from there. She comes up for a few days every few years and said summer of '18 that they'd have to celebrate my 90th during her trip up in Aug.: flew me to Phoenix for my 8oth, ten years ago. At the party, when I said that I'd been rather worried after the announcement, as birthday wasn't till Jan, so figured I didn't dare die in between, or wouldn't be keeping up my end of the bargain, there was some laughter. The old guys at the village church that I attend had a group called "Senior Mens' Coffee Hour" on Thursday mornings, that they renamed the "ROMEOs", as in "Retired Old Men Eating Out", (and wouldn't touch my suggestion that it should be"ROMDOs", as in "Retired Old Men Drinking Out" with a 10-foot pole) give each guy with a birthday that month a cupcake with a candle on top at the meeting. I hold mine at arm's length: if I blow it out, called "blowhard", if not, "bit off more than you could chew, huh?", and laughter whichever way. When the cake came out at the party, the numbers were facing me, but the cameras were on the other side. I was holding the cake at arm's length, and turned it around to have the numbers "89.5" facing the cameras ... ... and gave a sigh of relief: happy to be off the hook! Glad to hear you had a good day and are out and about as usual. Recycling is an inefficient answer to the problem of too much trash. Best not to buy the 'trash' in the first place. That's hard to do, when at least half of what's on the shelf in the grocery store is *plastic* and will NEVER go away. (I heard that statistic on PBS radio this morning, a rebroadcast from the BBC.) I've just realized that I will soon reach the last year where I can offhandedly refer to being 'in my seventies'. <sigh>

Thank you, everyone, for your congratulations and best wishes.

I'd learned that I wasn't restricted to only one or two more tests, but could continue trying (every three weeks or so) until I passed.

Some more info that somewhat relates to this, over on the "Retirement" forum, that may be of interest especially to seniors, coping with some of the restrictions of living as we age.

Congratulations! Just so you realize when it IS time to stop driving. I don't know how old you are, but I'm 79 and have stopped driving because of several diabetic issues. A classmate's son-in-law turned him in for irratic driving and he took some lessons but still didn't pass because he was hugging the middle line.

Actually, when you have to have a 4-year-licensed driver sitting beside you ... and can't drive on the freeway ... and not between midnight and 5 a.m. either ...

... somehow, one gets the feeling that one has arrived at one's second childhood!
