When to tie up new spikes
Comments (2)I get a bit OCD about spikes. The most important thing right now is to place the plant toward the light and not change its position. The spikes will follow the light. If you keep turning the plant the spikes grow crooked and twisted. Put a sticker or mark on the pot facing the direction you want the spikes to grow. Each time you move the pot, make sure that spot is facing exactly the same way. By doing this in the beginning, the spikes will grow in the right direction. Then you can put your stakes in the position you intend the spikes to grow. When the spikes grow in about 1/2 their height (8+ inches) I begin to tie the spikes. I tie loose knots on the yarn so I can gently train the spike in the direction of the stakes. This can take weeks as you do not want to force the spike. Always gentle and slow...you do not want to break it. I never use clips until the spike is beginning to open its flowers. By that point the spike and stake are together so the clip just goes on easily. I then remove the yarn. If you keep moving the plant around, your flowers will not look as good as they will be facing in different directions. Keep the spikes growing toward the light without changing. If you are growing branching or mini type Phals, you can put the stakes in earlier and gently lead the spike toward the stake. When I have spikes that branch, I keep the spike growing upward only letting the last few inches untied so you get a gentle curve. Large flowering Phals look best with a cascade. So I tie the spikes until I start to see the buds enlarging. I won't tie the spike any higher and cut the stake and let the spikes start to cascade. This photo shows a large flowering Phal with two spikes. I only tied the spikes half way to allow the flowers to hang down. This is a small-flowered Phal with multiple branches. The spike was tied up while growing and is now being held with a clip. One other point, I don't like clips but will use them to display the plant when it is in flower. The spikes are better served with a soft twine which can be gradually tightened as it grows. Sorry for the long post. As I said, I get nutty about growing perfect spikes as most of the Phals I grow go back to their original owners for display. Nothing uglier than a Phal with twisted flowers or broken spikes. Comments (7)If I grow my tommies in a row, I put a stake at each end and use baling twine (I try and use pink or black not orange) between the stakes on both sides of the plant. Then I can just use twist ties to hold the both sides of the twine together between bushes. The plants themselves aren't actually tied....See MoreHow to tie up loose financial ends.
Comments (3)If you went in and purchased the appliances (and paid for them), you need to do the paperwork. They will not do it for you. They will provide you with what you need should you ask. Personally I would just go online to the appliance manufacturers website, get the information and proceed....See MoreISO Buffalo Check tie up window treatments or other suggestions
Comments (11)They will do whatever you want and yes, they will give you the amount of fabric to buy as well. They didn’t have a picture of this type of valance on their site and all I had to do was show them a sample pic of what I wanted. I asked for some additional length so there would be more gathering and that was fine. She also gave me some guidence on measuring to make sure they would be perfect. I bought the fabric from Fabric.com (which is owned by Amazon) and had it shipped directly to them. I had to buy quite a bit for mine because of the repeat, but to my surprise, they returned all of the unused fabric to me. There’s more than plenty for a runner so I may be doing the same. Turn around time was faster than expected too. The only thing I want to warn you about is that with the ties, make sure your fabric is just a simple light weight cotton. I chose a heavier tie fabric because it was a perfect match to the cream in the valance fabric but it’s too stiff or heavy and harder to tie. Oh, and you can order fabric samples from Fabric.com, I would recommend doing that just to make sure the check in the fabric is ample and the weight of the tie matieral is good. Here is the other one over the sink....See Morecampv 8b AZ
