Please, show us your pics of plants in very porous 'Premium' mix:
Comments (42)Ummm, I have no idea where to begin everyone ! Breathe taking to say the least! Josh, first off, I hope you are feeling much better my good friend! Please stop by again when you are up to it. I would love to see your beautiful Orchid here in your premium mix. It's so lovely Josh! Laura! Amazing and at this time of the year! Color is just what the Doctor oredered for Mom and for me! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful plants. You know, have you noticed that Plumeria do FANTASTIC in the grittty mix?! Your colors and vigor attest to that. Mine did fantastic for the first time too but then the mice came by and killed them:-( Laura, do I LOVE the yellow ones. They look like they are very fragrant. Look at the size of your Brugs! I tell you, the sun in your area must be so much more enjoyed by your plants than mine. I could only wish the sun was as strong as yours in summer to force lots of blooms on my DR's.. Guess what? I think I am going to get some flowers on my Cactus Orchid very soon for the first time!!! I will post if so. They are growing in a version of the 5.1.1 mix, I think Josh's version which I love too! I miss the summer and those pool days. They will be here before we know it! Thanks again so much for sharing:-) Jodi!!!! Hello again! I REALYY appreciate all your support and very kind words. You have been such an inspiration to me in all you say and do. Your ability to grow nice plants has encouarged me in many ways. Your words of common sense and explanations means so much. Thanks again OUR dear friend! Now as for holding cameras, that is another issue.lol I can't wait to see some of your plants too:-) I hear you about an odd winter. It was 55 today here and teh mosquitos were out near my pond! I wonder if the frogs will be out early? I need to uncover my pond soon. As long as the ground does not warm beyond the 40's, everything should stay in rest stage! My main concern would be watering my plants so they don't dehydrate. The shallowed bushes I have need to be watered since I have no snow cover. You should see how FAST the ground dries out. I am concerned about dried out plants. So, I pass the hose to all my plants and do they drink:-) Linda! Wowowowoa. I never saw such interesting pots before. I love them and as Josh said, that clown is quite scary.lol That verticlaly challanged is awesome!! Where do I get one of those? I can imagine all my succulents in that thing taking up no room at all. I love your set-up and everything about it. Nice plants growing in the gritty mix I must say! Thank you so much.:-) Al, Mom would like to visit sometime for a free tour, and so would I! Mike:-)...See MoreMost rare conifer in your collection
Comments (84)I purchased it as P. Pungens 'baby blue' (you know the tags, "blue is cool blue is cool blue is cool blue is cool blue is cool"). It was only after a year or two that I noticed its branches were weeping. I think I planted it Nov 2014, but maybe Nov 2015. I do remember when purchasing it, it was different (I looked at every single one they had, probably over 200) but weeping never crossed my mind even though in thinking back I remember it looking about what it currently looks like. When I compared it to my 7 or so other P. Pungens 'baby blue', it was clearly different. I guess it would be considered a seedling with a mutation (or a mutated seedling?) ? The baby blue are grown from seed....See MoreYour Most Unique/Creative Plant Stand (Pictures Of My Latest One)
Comments (9)That is cool ,,, I've been keeping an eye out for an old birdcage too and, so far, haven't found anything. I like the handle and that it sits up off the ground. And the price, well you can't beat that. Great find. My most creative plant stand (not actually a stand) is my latest attempt with my grandmother's plant (I'll post pictures later). My family calls it the "plant contraption". :) Enjoy your RHP ,,, he looks great....See MoreWhat Is Your Most Unique Trellis?
Comments (18)Thanks for your advice in this, Mike. The root system is so extensive that if I tried to pull it out, it would leave all the roots behind. I tried for a while and even after emptying out as much of the hydroton as I could, it wouldn't move a millimeter. It's because I used the small hydroton, I think. With that stuff the roots grab in a zillion places, whereas it's easier to shake plants loose of the medium grade (I think). I think I just have to resign myself to the fact that this antique glass is a goner at some point. I can split the glass using the scoring and water technique for making wine bottle planters. It goes so fast I don't think it will hurt the roots too much. Okay so here's the setup. It's in an apothecary jar about 10" high and 3.5-4" in diameter. It has produced a new leaf, which is now full size, so a one leaf cutting could be taken, if neccessary. My options: 1. I can break the glass now and move it to a new situation before its roots become of a sufficient mass to be endangered by the extraction. 2. I can harvest a small cutting and get it rooted now (while it's still summer), as a backup policy. 3. I can leave things as they are, allowing the plant to gain strength and stability, waiting to break the glass till the plant displays ire at its substandard quarters. So, what do you guys think? Do I act fast or bide my time? Thanks for reminding me about your reservoir strategy. I think that's how I'd like to grow my main plant in the end, although it would be nice to have one in soil and one in hydro and see how they do. Because, you know, I have so much room that really I need a lambii experiment going on....See MoreStush2049 Pitts. PA, zone 6
