I always get a kick at commercials or ads for mascaras where the models are wearing false eyelashes. If the mascara is so good, why do they need the false eyelashes?

I think the Kardashians wearing them 24/7 got everyone else wearing them constantly.

Me too, Anitamo. It always makes me wonder what ever happened to "truth in advertising."

They look foolish, often. Realllly foolish. But well trimmed lashes of an appropriate length can look very natural....only better! I wear them on glam occasions, I confess. They kick it up a notch a couple of times a year when I play dress-up. ;-)

"Foolish" is a good way to describe most of those I've seen. But I'm sure you know how to pull off a good look, Rhizo.

Women in the south often put more attention to detail in grooming... so yes, I see them fairly often and I think some women go get the individual lashes added.

I've only worn false lashes a few times and that is for costumes. I can't pull them off as a glamour look. My natural lashes are blonde. False lashes look pretty harsh on me unless I'm wearing a dark wig.

Well that does explain why I was out digging a new flower bed and I was wearing my diamond tennis bracelet the other day. Dumb to do (what if it came off?), but I looked good even though I was dirty ;)

I have naturally long lashes so I don't need them.

How many times do we see little boys with the longest lashes? Often. :-)

Some women look like they're wearing spiders on their eyes.

One of my daughters has eye lash extensions that are glued to her existing eyelashes. She does live in New York and works in the fashion industry, but I think it's kind of an expensive, high maintenance vanity I couldn't be bothered with.

I think everything about our looks are over rated. I get it though. I don't make a deal over it to my kids but they have long dark eyelashes and think they look so cute when they are looking down at something. Adults haven't had the same effect on me - men or women. I also don't notice it with other children. Maybe I just need to get out more?

I do remember when I convinced my friend to wear them and they were falling off by the time our evening ended.

Cookie, that's my fear of them now. I bought some for special occasions a couple of years ago and found I wasn't as adept at applying them as I was decades ago. I didn't feel secure going out for several hours wearing them, didn't want part of my 'makeup' to fall off before I came home again ;-) Maybe that has something to do with skin not being as smooth and taut as it used to be. They were something fun to add many years back, and I did, a lot....dare I say Twiggy era. I could copy that look with precision then. My lashes are OK for the most part, if I want to draw attention to my eyes I'm settling for a second coat of mascara unless someone has tips or tricks for false lashes on mature lids ;-)

I find them distracting on TV shows. Once has a lot of close up shots, and the lashes are so obviously bad fakes that I catch myself just staring at them sometimes. It really is a negative distraction; it would be nice if their use were eliminated, especially for the non-glam scenes where they are wearing street clothes. On the other hand, it is one of the silly things to laugh about. Not quite in the league of Rumpelstiltskin's makeup melting off his face though--that stands all by itself!

Way too fancy for me. I consider wearing mascara to be glamming it up.

Morz8, I think I did something wrong when I put them on. My friend was only 38 at the time and she doesn't have heavy eyelids. I bet I didn't use enough glue or the glue was too old. She only had them on for 3 hours and because I am boring, as she was visiting me for a week, we only went out for dinner then to Superstore, lol, no dancing, no nothing. Pretty sure I messed up. But yeah, you could tell they were fake. Not a look I could wear out comfortably.

My nail technician also does eyelash extensions and her business is booming. I could never be bothered to do them, I've never used false eyelashes and I don't wear any makeup unless it is a special occasion but they are popular here...and expensive.

I've been noticing an overabundance of false eyelashes on standard television dramas. I guess it's a fad right now.

When I was younger I had beautiful long dark eyelashes and nice eyebrows. Now that I'm post-menopausal-not so much. I can make my lashes noticeable if I use a curler and dark mascara, and can draw in my brows, but it doesn't look natural. I tried to put falsies on once and was not dexterous enough. Into the garbage they went.

Sleeperblues, have you tried brow mascara? I love the stuff! It's the best, most natural looking way I've found to deal with my light and aging eyebrows. I use Maybelline's Brow Drama in Blonde.

rob, you remind me of Shirley MacLaine's line in Steel Magnolias, something to the effect of,

Me too, I use the Brow Drama. Recently was offered the opportunity to have Microblading done on my brows. I think it looks pretty good, but I'm too scared to have it done. At my new job there are several estheticians that do lash extensions and I'm amazed at how many get them done.

I've never done false eyelashes. Even in the sixties/seventies when they were so popular. I would consider lash extensions/fill ins for a special event. Done right they can look very natural. But I don't do special events.

I have very dark brown eyes but I never use black mascara. Too harsh and calls attention to the thinner post menopausal lashes. I use black/brown or dark brown mascara instead. Brings out the lashes but more forgiving.

Oprah confessed on her show that she got her fake eyelashes from the drug store. I wore them when I was a buyer for a department store at a pretty young age. I learned how to do it. They weren't longer than my own just make them look thicker. They looked nice. Just glue them on and put a bit of eyeliner to hide the seam. They came off easily and my mother would have told me if it were too much.

Yes, Alisande, I was referring to the Once Upon a Time show. Sorry I didn't write it out to be clearer. My husband and I are up to the current episodes, but we are also concurrently watching it with our son, and he is in season four. Sometimes I have to really think about which story line I am following leading up to a viewing!

I've noticed a lot of new makeup fads lately; false eyelashes, contouring, highlighting, winged eye liner, massive brows. I'm attributing them all to the Kardashians.

We saw a couple of episodes of The Catch. She has the worst false eyelashes I've ever seen. Her eyeliner is too thick, and it makes her eyes look far too heavy and black. She was in bed with her boyfriend, talking to him, and honestly, you couldn't see her eyes. Just black blobs on her face. I also don't like her lipstick, her lips look too dry and cracked to me. But the show is great, except that the background music is far too loud. This post wasn't meant to be a vent, just my observation, LOL

I've never seen the show (on cable?), but I thought it was about fishing. :-)

Just when the weird hair extensions were being eliminated, here come false eyelashes. The only person I know who wears them constantly started when she was 15; she's now 18.

Only yesterday I was thinking about the *hours* females spend in front of a mirror when they are young -- and what a shock is is to become a mother, lucky to get two minutes of a morning while scrambling to get the family out the door.

I'm really sick of seeing the long hair extensions that spiral/ringlets. They look so obvious, when the hair halfway down is straight then ringlets the rest of the way. Everyone from the star in Once Upon a Time, to news-anchors.
