Good morning! I am very close to finalizing my paint selections for my new build. I love the wall colors I've selected but my trim color is still a little whiter than I'd like; I wanted something creamier. I do not want to do any antiquing. The trim will be used on doors, trim, crown molding, and most of the cabinetry in the house. The wall colors include: + S-W 6107 Nomadic Desert (same color card as Latte, just one shade lighter) + S-W 6105 Divine White (same color card as Latte, just three shades lighter) + S-W 7687 August Moon + S-W 7509 Tiki Hut The currently selected trim color is S-W 7562 Roman Column. It's a very nice white and looks creamy in most light, but now that I see it painted next to my wall colors on the sample boards, it looks too white. Most of our floors will be walnut stained red oak. The carpeted areas will be a regular ol' beige-brown carpet. Any suggestions? I do plan to call Sherwin-Williams today to see if they can recommend something 1 shade creamier. Thanks! try_hard ...

Hello! First post! I just painted the powder room Grassland, and now the room feels darker. Could this be because the painter painted the ceiling Grassland also? (By mistake) There is white crown molding and door trim in Pure White. I need to lighten up this room somehow without repainting. Cabinets are oak and accessories are brushed nickel. The house has all new interior doors and closet doors, and they were all painted Dover White. This color now looks to me to be more of an ivory than white in one room, especially when set against bright white trim. I am thinking this color for trim and doors does not go well with lighter beige/ivory colors (BM Hawthorne 1/2 formula) as it seems to fade away in the master bedroom. The two other rooms have Restrained Gold and Sedate Gray, and in those the Dover White looks like the chip--a slighty creamy white but white. I can't paint all the doors over, and I left the ones in the hall with the original brighter white trim, so I have 2 questions: Does a differnt trim color from door color look dumb? And what should I paint the trim in the master bedroom? Sorry soooo long of a post!

Can any color experts out there tell me if SW Moth Wing would be a good choice for the island? Would it give an ample contrast to the SW Dover White. First, I loveDover White. I think it's a pretty white. Some whites are "okay" and some are "pretty" and I think Dover White is pretty, so you could have done a lot worse, IMO. Dover White belongs to the yellow hue family. So, the data validates exactly what you're seeing. If I painted the walls SW Accessible Beige with a PPG Delicate White Trim, would that clash? I'm hoping the paint color I choose will help neutralize the yellow I see. They would not clash. Those three colors go together well - they relate nicely. And it is possible that Accessible will lessen how yellow Dover White looks. Moth Wing doesn't really fit in. It's too close in terms of hue family and chroma to Accessible Beige and I don't care for the relationship on paper or lookin' at the chips. I know Moth Wing and Accessible Beige are on the same strip but that doesn't really mean anything. Color harmony is not built-in guaranteed just because colors are on the same strip. Very often the similar color attributes that land colors on the same strip are the very reasons they don't go together - Accessible Beige and Moth Wing are a good example. If you're not happy with Balanced Beige and don't want to just leave it and see how it works out, then I'd get off that strip of colors and go another color direction.

Can I ask how you are sampling these colors? You want to be looking at them in your space with the colors that are going to be next to them and looking at them without interference from other colors that will no longer be in the space and with the lighting that you will have in the space, both natural daylight and evening artificial light. You need to look at them in various areas of the room - some walls may get more sunlight than others, some may have gray shadows. You need to be looking at large samples. I look at colors every day and still like to view whites as 18x24 samples. Without experience I often recommend painting a 1/2 or full sheet of drywall to test your top contenders. Not too long ago we had a woman post her dilemma on Houzz. Everyone was trying to help her. Between us we explained LCH and lighting and our own experiences with whites. She had color matches done by different brands, bought dozens of samples, mixed her own samples and then after about 150 comments she posted a picture of her samples. She was looking at small samples next to each other instead of large samples tested independently. This was her response after trying my suggestion of painting 2 pieces of drywall and never viewing more than 2 colors at a time. @Jennifer Hogan your suggestion was brilliant. I wish I would have done the big pieces of drywall testers in the very beginning! in doing this, I found that I actually liked a few different shades that I believe I’d be happy with. Not comparing the colors I was considering to multiple other whites next to it or other testers on the wall to distract was a game changer....in addition, seeing it in a larger scale and bringing it into multiple different rooms w my samples also helped me appreciate the color even more, or throw it out until I ended up with 2 I liked. it’s a bit of a rainy day here today- so just to be sure, I’m going to go check them out again tomorrow w better sunlight & make the choice :).
