I can't believe I fell for.....
Comments (32)Flowergirl, the nana dwarf nandina died? I got one too, it was in pot in basement last winter. But I read and read and it claims it loses leaves at 10 degrees, but it's supposedly hardy to zone 5.. no??? I used to have a ton on Malva Zebrina, from seed. This year one survived, in a wierd spot from a bird. The rabbits ate most. At this point in the year, I don't know if it will have time to flower (and get more seeds).. .the rabbit tore away at it.. Garden mags, like aimekitty...don't get me started. lois, years ago I got 3 bouncing betty soapworts. Yes, they are double, yes fragrant, they take over the yard and then some... And the plants I bought, and just don't have the energy to put in... or the rabbits eat so they are in pots... I too DESPISE STAKING, and so much this year wanted...something... "Fell for"... some things, but I vented enough...See MoreI would like to make a topiary, have ivy atc.need advice
Comments (1)I was searching online for a way to make hanging ivy balls and came across this thread. Can someone help Tammy and me figure out how to use "wild" ivy for a topiary or hanging ball of ivy? There is a LOT of wild-growing ivy where I live in the NW corner of WA, but how do I know what parts to dig up and use?...See MoreWhen I turned 40 what didn't fall off, fell apart, now I'm 50
Comments (11)I hear you ladies........since I've hit 40, I first had my gall bladder removed. Then a year ago, I had a bladder suspension, now I'm trying to deal with my lifelong endometriosis and cyst pain. I spot bleed on and off all month. The loss of hair on your head and additional hair on the face is no picnic........... But.....if we had lived just a century ago, we would really be in "Old Age", nearing the end of our lives. The good thing is, that we really are still young enough to enjoy our families and choices that we've made in life. Even with all the nuisances of mid-life, I wouldn't change and go back 30 years. Nothing comes easy.....getting where you are today didn't come easy...I have a philosophy that our bodies break down as we age, we become dependant (somewhat) on our families and on God, and leave this world in the same condition that we came.......there is a lesson in it, it's up to us to get it......trials, blessings, the whole package of life....See MoreI think I just fell in love, with a kitchen!
Comments (34)Clueless, you're much too kind. Allow me. practigal, ho hum? Which part bores you, the overall creamy caramel tones, the beautiful island, or the unusual but incredibly effective use of stained and painted cabinets - and the echo of that mix in the choice of cabinet knobs? Perhaps the use of carriage doors that open to the outside garden? This kind of space thrills me as the antidote to the ever popular but sleep inducing all white kitchen situated in an environment so un-ornamental, it is completely removed from context. local, there are some wine glasses and display items in the hutch, but who says drinking glasses are stored in it thus fouling traffic flow? For all you know drinking glasses are stored in the tall cabinet next to the fridge - which is where I'd put them. DC, and design, the black fridge and range provide contrast, something a lot of kitchens don't deal with well and simply avoid. I think black adds a great touch of visual interest that the space would be missing without them. I'm with you on the sidesplash. Jann, what poor design? There's not a single error in function to be found here. It's a galley kitchen. jakk, the sink and range actually are offset, and if aisle widths are correct, should be fine. veda, someone who cooks would fall in love with the economy of movement this kitchen offers. Everything is within reach or a couple of steps. And those of us with advanced degrees and siblings with advanced degrees, and parents with advanced degrees tend to live in homes with a lot of books in every room, so a kitchen like this has a special appeal, both to us, and to those who love to read. Don't get me wrong, I understand a kitchen like this one is not going to be to everyone's liking - it's not the size of the Met, there's nothing painted grey or blue, there's no soapstone, in fact there's nothing trendy in this space. That's why I love it, that's what appeals to me every time I look at these images. It is a model of intelligent, efficient beauty, and when do we ever see that in a kitchen that also feels like a warm and wonderful family space? I remain smitten, and I love that clueless was kind enough to share her crush....See Moresylviatexas1
