Comments (2)***####!!!! I just typed a long response and my computer burped and I lost the whole thing!!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Piggybacking on PM's idea...use the hot sauce and make cute rehearsal dinner labels for the bottles. eg: Some Like It Hot! John and Mary March 31, 2013 Buy etching cream and small votive cups. Make a stencil, and etch the couples information into the cups for guest favors. Use Gerbera daisies in mason jars down the table centers. Real or silk, they come in bright colors. Make your own napkins using a fun print or brightly colored solids. You could match the color of the daisies. Think hot pink, orange, lime green, yellow, turquoise, red. If you don;t sew, cut them out with pinking shears. Make napkin rings out of carboard tubes covered with fabric, or buy inexpensive ones, and cut out cactus shapes from felt or cardstock and glue to the napkin rings. You might be able to find small pinatas at a party supply store with a wedding theme and use as centerpieces. Colorful candles are always a good choice. Use different colored package shreds and spread them in the middle as table scatter. I'm going to try to post now before this goes away again, LOL Candy...See MoreSigns of a bad guest...
Comments (7)This is a cross-post from last year, but opened up old hard feelings. These people are on the West coast and we are on the East coast now. Couple attended a couple of parties at our home. Husband was a joke-teller and consumed quite a bit of time doing so. His DW was in my "girls group" and opined at one time how difficult it is to have a holiday dinner w/o grandkids, etc. since most people have them and we don't. On that cue, I invited them to our house for Thanksgiving. They were going away for her birthday but thanks. Weather there turned lousy and they came home. She called the day before Thanksgiving and asked us to her home. I said that I had already bought everything so why not come to ours. Well, they had already asked others to theirs. We spent TG home alone. I brought this up to a GF who said that maybe the husband was uncomfortable at our home, but I said that he didn't seem uncomfortable telling jokes to our other guests for an hour or so.... Fast forward; her sis and BIL were visiting from Europe. She called and asked my DH to schedule a golf game a few days hence, which he did. Then, since I hadn't heard from her in the meantime, I called the evening before to confirm the golf date. She said, "Oh, they aren't playing." No thanks, or KMA or nothing. The last straw was a discussion about storage of seldom used things (party items, etc.), and she said that they had just recently had a Christmas party with 60 people(we were not invited). It hurt like he!!, but at least I'm old enough to realize that $#!+ happens and I think if she ever knew how hurt I was, she would be devastated. I just think she didn't have a clue, even though they are very socially connected and well liked....See MoreI survived Nick's birthday party
Comments (13)Lord, I remember those kids parties. and how hard it is to get a RSVP answer. The best parties my two girls had came in the summer, when I opened our home and pool to their young friends. I remember once, inviting everyione in my daughters class plus several girls from her dancing school, and planning on 30-40, yet only five or six showed. We had plenty of food (pizza), cake and a pinata. I had scads of leftover take-home "goodie' bags (little favors for the girls to take home. I let my two girls keep the extras. One thing I always did-invite the kids for a Friday night to Saturday morning sleepover, and decorate the house and yard. I made everyone a big breakfast on Saturday, then had the "family" party on Sunday afternoon where grandparents, aunts and uncles came over. I left up the decorations till after the family party was over. One Grandma used to bring food, no matter that I begged her not to. I remember once she brought a half-tray of her homemade lasagna, there wasn't enough for everyone. I was so embarassed, but I managed to fill-in with cold cuts and salads and lots of fried chicken. Glad those days are long over. My two daughters are now 20 and 21. Parties are all over. Your Nicks looked like fun....See MoreNo gifts birthday party
Comments (18)Today is my gdtr's fifth birthday. Her parents rented a ballet studio for two hours and invited 20 kids. Afterwards, the family will gather at their home for dinner. The day will cost them at least $500. They have three kids. $1500 a year for birthday parties. Every time the kids go to a party, they spend $15 to $25 on a present. Currently, two of the kids go to at least two parties a month - the third is still a baby, but she'll start going to parties, probably next year! That's an additional $80 or so a month on presents. My gkids have so many toys and junk it's...well, I'm at a loss for words. Personally, I think it's ridiculous. We are always outdoing each other with presents and venues for kids' parties. This started long ago, when my kids were little. We had cake and pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey at home, and parents said things like "Oh, how cute." Then they rented halls for their kids' parties. I know I sound like an old crank, but I like to think that gifts have meaning beyond the WOW factor that lasts a few minutes. You never know what's going to tickle a kid. I am absolutely thrilled beyond words that my 2 1/2 yo gson latched on to the sweater I was wearing one day as his cuddle blanket several months ago. He sleeps with it. I can't possibly give him anything better than that....See Morewildchild2x2
