How can you tell if you're getting a healthy plant?
Comments (4)Thanks duluthinbloomz4. I was a little worried about the Ostrich fern when I purchased it. It did appear to be yellowing/browning a little: But for $2, I figured I'd give it a shot. The Japanese beech fern still has a nice green color to it. Here's a pic of it: I have had several online gardeners tell me that buying plants from the clearance racks after their growing/blooming season is over is one of the best/cheapest ways to get your gardens established. But when you're a newbie gardener standing there in front of a bunch of plants that look like their dying, you get a little intimidated. Other than checking for root-rot, I'm not real sure what is/isn't normal....See MoreHow to Tell if You're Mom's Favorite

Comments (12)John, You sent me these Red Savina seed 2 or 3 years ago. We had nearly perfect superhot growing weather this year with a long dry summer and then wet fall. The Red Savina's were so hot that I had to process them outdoors wearing a mask. My M-I-L tried to cut up a few to fill a quart jar with slices to make hot sauce. Her kitchen was uninhabitable for 2 hours. I have 3 quart jars of sliced peppers in vinegar. One half of one pepper is enough to make 2 gallons of chili almost unbearably hot. I cut the pods in half and nipped out the stem and seed. When finished, I had a small bowl full of seed that I let dry for about 10 days. Then I tried to shell the seed off of the placenta. Big mistake, I did it indoors. In less than 5 minutes, the air was so full of pepper oil that I was asked to leave the house. I finished separating the seed outdoors. I now have a package of about 2000 pure Red Savina seed from the large plant and have saved a few hundred seed from the smaller plant. My only dilemma now is whether or not to grow plants for next year. 3 quarts of super hot sauce is enough to last me several years. One note is that everyone who tried them agreed that the flavor was superb. We had carefully cut some peppers open and removed the seed and ribs to get rid of most of the heat. This was the only way we could eat them fresh. Fusion...See MoreI'm outta' here...............
Comments (11)Sorry, time out for a new baby...I'm finally catching up now!!! Sandi, the cushions will be black and white check on one side and yellow and white check on the other, with the yellow/cherry print for the ties and cording! Kathleen be sure you DO tell your sister, and give her my email address! We would love to meet her and make her feel like a welcome Texan!! DH and I go to Arlington fairly often, and maybe she would like to venture down here...we are only about 100 miles south and right on an interstate that she can easily reach! As to the camera...I think I have a solution, but somebody is going to have to help me! DS told me that I can have my 35MM pictures printed to disc and then I should be able to load them some sort of way so that they can be posted. He is going to help me as soon as he has time!...See MoreUser
