You don't really need a pattern! It's easiest if you like the top just painted w/ or w/out the glass. (Sooooo many things you can do to the top under the glass!) If you can sew straight lines you are all set. Measure the height from the floor to the top. Add in the depth of the hem & turndown and do the same for the top edge. You can use stick on velcro on the table edge, but it's better to use the sew on for the fabric to make it easier to take off to wash. You can also use decorative tacks to attach the skirt You can make it as ruffled or as tailored as you want depending on the length of fabric you buy. Tailored just takes pinning & folding in pleats where you want them. Full & flow-y just takes gathering along the top edge until you have the fullness you want. Someone at the cutting table at the store you get your fabric at can help you determine exactly how many yards of fabric you need for the fullness you want. Just have all your table measurements written down when you go. This is really a great simple sewing project! I hope others chime in w/ advice, too. Please post pics of the finished tables.

itltrot, I love your drawer for hair appliances. Do you have the hairdryer plugged in somewhere in the vanity, or do you use the outlet I see above the counter? How deep is your counter? Ours will be pretty narrow, about 18 inches; I don't know if that should affect my decision or not. Finally, I see the full run of the countertop is the same height. May I ask how high the counter is? I feel like 30 inches is a typical table/desk height, but most vanities are about 35 inches high. Did you make that counter 30 inches or so high? I'd prefer to have one long counter and not break it up into 2 levels, so the vanity will be low enough to sit at comfortably.

I would find a lumber mill/yard that caters to woodworkers, as they will have many species of wood to chose from. Find your local Woodcraft or similar store and ask them. My Woodcraft store even has some wood on hand. Take a sample of the counter and a paint chip with you (and maybe a floor tile) and ask them to help you chose a species that will look good with the counter. They can wet the wood with something (mineral spirits? water?) that will show what it looks like with a clear finish on it. Or they may have samples on display. I did Black Walnut for my bath vanity with Waterlox for a finish. Woodcraft pointed me to a lumber mill, and they glued four planks of heartwood and then rounded the edges to my choice of edge. My contractor did several coats of Waterlox. We wipe drips after use.

Yes I have a nook in my bedroom outside the walk-in closet that was designed to fit my old vanity. I told the architect that if my vanity didn't fit, he was fired! The vanity I got when I was about 8 years old...part of a french provincial bed set, white with gold trim. In the 80s, I refinished it, marbelized the top and changed out the hardware. The mirror and the wall sconces were salvaged from the old house that was here before we built. The capiz shell sconces were over the fireplace. In covid days, I rarely do makeup any more, but I've used the vanity a lot. The angled lighted makeup mirror is key for seeing one's face and making the set up work.
