Yard sale tree- what is it?

So far it's about 5' tall. It has a thin trunk that splits a couple inches from the base.

the leaves are light green, symmetrical, and branch out in pairs. It's hard to describe. The leaves collectively fan out during sunlight hours, and around dusk they droop.

im in Caifornia, and it seems to be doing very well kept in a shaded area, and watered often.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! I don't want to plant it in the wrong area.

I'd say it was Wisteria. The folding leaves would confirm that.

Just guessing here, I think the leaves look like those of Averrhoa, maybe not A. carambola but more like A. bilimbi (the smaller, sour variety), if it's a fruit tree. Good luck ID-ing!

You will want to have others confirm this, but it looks to me like tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima), which is an exotic invasive that spreads into wild areas and creates problems for native vegetation. On the east coast its sale or transport is prohibited by some states, and I know it is a problem in at least some parts of CA. If others confirm the ID, you don't want to plant it - instead dispose of it.

wow, that first one is so nawleans you can hear the parades. The second one is kinda op art or whatever they call that period in Fla. Late at night, lol. Maybe you could use stain glass paint on the underside of the glass top and change the look...on top, might come off?? I did notice there is a circle on the bottom like one of mine but it has a smaller circle inside and it is for an umbrella. You could put a potted plant in yours and it would look great. A vine could go up the supports or a flower could be seen thru the glass. Again, great finds. and a DH. June

I used to do that- purchase all sorts of things for others. They graciously accepted them, but I really don't know if they wanted it or not. I have finally come to the place where I feel that the right person will get the 'item'- if it's at a garage sale, like the blue bottles- the person behind me, or maybe in a few hours will stumble on them and be estatic to buy them! or if they end up at a thrift shop- again, the right person will find them. it has allowed a lot of peace to enter my life!

Looks like an ornamental pear. Common cultivar names for them include 'Bradford' and 'Cleveland Select'.

Thanks for asking, Jroot. It went okay, but not nearly as well as I thought it might. I think I sold one brug, people just don't know what they are! Some tomatoes, but mostly hostas and echineceas. Met some nice neighborhood people though, and it did pay for all the bags of compost and potting soil that I bought. I guess I am more of a plant fanatic than my neighbors, although when people wanted to chat, I did tell everyone who would listen about my political tomato, the Rouge D'Irak. I sold a few of those because people were interested and aghast! Many people did ask if I do this every year, and plan to come back. So that's good!!!

Oh, I am glad Floral. I think I got caught up in the "tree" part, but it definitely looks more like a vine.

Could well be - I don't know that tree at all. Pictures I see on line don't have a terminal leaflet. Is it variable?
