Thanks for asking, Jroot. It went okay, but not nearly as well as I thought it might. I think I sold one brug, people just don't know what they are! Some tomatoes, but mostly hostas and echineceas. Met some nice neighborhood people though, and it did pay for all the bags of compost and potting soil that I bought. I guess I am more of a plant fanatic than my neighbors, although when people wanted to chat, I did tell everyone who would listen about my political tomato, the Rouge D'Irak. I sold a few of those because people were interested and aghast! Many people did ask if I do this every year, and plan to come back. So that's good!!!

Here an estate sale is considered an indoor with outdoor items perhaps. Almost everything in the house is for sale and tagged. Usually by someone in the estate sale business. Things are clean and as I said tagged. Usually large items will have a sign saying they will take bids on them - if applicable. Prices are firm until the last day and usually on that morning things are 25% off and later in the day maybe after 11 they go half price. on a big sale the place iscleared out before the 1/2 price goes into effect and then people are let back in. The prices range from the perceived value of the item. I've seen both ends of the spectrum. People line up well before the usual 8 am opening to get in. Most of our sales are run by two popular Estate sale agents and their crews. A tag sale might be in the empty house or just items already priced If you have a lot of stuff it might be well to contact an agent in your community. It might be worth it just to avoid the hassles and headaches and they are usually responsible for everything. One of the most disgusting "estate sales" I went to was run by the family and they had their bed ridden aged mother in the living room watching people go thru her stuff while the family sat around drinking coffee.

At my sale, kitchen gadgets, children's toys (all were like new and still in the boxes), clothes, and books sold out, pocket books sold a few, but we had some left. Bags of misc. screws, drawer knobs, and tools caught the attention of the men. I sold the entire box of video's for $10, that is the item the man made an offer on but went ahead and paid full price. The table next to ours, they had the most sales it seemed, sold children's clothes, toys, and sports equipment. Things that didn't seem to sale were furniture items, desks, chairs, tables, and exercise equipment. But we had the sale in the gym at a local high school, and purchases had to be carried quite a ways to the parking lot, so that might have been a consideration in what was purchased.

First, thanks to all who took time to response to my question. Update: Beside the Anderson 400 french patio door, I 've decided to also purchase a 2 panel/lite unit (fixed), that matches the look and demensions of the 5' wide patio door unit This will provide an total 10' wide, 4 lite, vista view of the back yard. ---Now, the $ stakes have increased-- the saving, including sales tax, is $600+ ! ---As per your sugestion I will consider asking the local lumber yard to match the price; however, that seems like a somewhat nasty thing to do. --A local lumber yard probably can't match the big store-- even if they did, I would only be causing a strain in my relationship with the lumber yard (I need to do business with them in the future). ---So, (1) I am not walking away from $600+, (2) I don't want to bring tension into my lumber yard relationship---- I am thinking I might just, quietly, buy the units from the big store. --Make sense? ---Jaes.
