Yes, Yayagal, I'm so happy! I've been going to my hairdresser for several years and thought I knew my own hair. I always tell her to just trim it, and she does. With kids and work and this time of my life I don't want drastic changes, and she understood that. But this time, we were both on the same wavelength. I wanted a change and she knew it. She was spot on! I never would have considered this hairstyle on my own, no matter how much I thought I knew my hair.

I hope you know how many moments you inspired during your years in the business. The fact that you noticed this in my post means you're every bit as guilty as my own hairdresser. (smiles!)

I'd never heard of "lob" before this thread, but I think it's what I have. Just above my shoulders, subtle, longish layers, long bangs, texture.

I love the lob cut. It is a great look.

I also have a lob, love it! Love texturizing it a bit. Wish I could do the beachy curls with a straightener by myself...my hairdresser is so good at it!

My google search turned up nothing like you described. Nothing that looked like anyone recently got a hair cut. bummer, I am very curious.

Lisad, your new haircut sounds terrific. I have curly fine hair and always feel so much better when I have a good haircut. I wish I could go longer but my hair is just too fine. It has no weight and grows straight out!

It's fun when a hair stylist changes your life (in a small way), isn't it? I recently changed stylists after many years, and the new one is helping me grow my hair out from a very short pixie, and it has been much less painful than any grow-out experience I have had.

"Long bad 80s rock band nuts" has me laughing! But it's also hitting close to home, I recognize that look. Calling my hairdresser today and hoping to get something half as stylish as what you describe! Thank you for both a laugh and a much needed push to call for a haircut!

I was in a rut too with my hair a couple of months back, always forcing it to go where it didnt want to and I finally gave in and got a pixie cut, love it. So glad you are happy with your new haircut, bet it looks great on you.

I just got a lob myself and am really enjoying it. When a friend suggested it I had to google it.

I had to look up lob to make sure, but I guess it is really a long bob? Although I thought your hair might be shorter, Lisa, I love the look. It's too long for my fine wispy hair too but love the look and glad it works for you. I love Amy Robach's haircut (GMA) and wonder how she keeps that little flip-back on the side.

The lob has a more natural look to it as if you had the most wonderful hair and didn't have to do much to it. I love it. The days of seriously controlled hair with heavy hairspray are in the past.

So is that the style Kelly Ripa is sporting these days? Is it difficult to style?

I first I thought you got a job, but when I saw this was about hair I thought you got a bob. I love that look and now I know what it is called. I always like Kelly Ripa's hair. She and I have the same kind of hair. She, however, has hair stylists waiting in the wings and I do not. Enjoy your lob!

Patty, as always, a good cut is the most important thing. I won't spend more than 5 minutes styling my hair, so it's mostly wash, air dry for an hour or two, and then hit briefly with a blow dryer. It's not a perfect, just-done look. It invites tousling.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Mine is at my shoulders and probably closer to a bob than what I initially thought.

It's very easy to fix. My stylist used a flat iron to get those funky waves going but, like Linelle, I won't spend time doing that. Fortunately, my hair has natural curl. If left alone, the curls looks like this below on their own. (My eyes sometimes look like this too when I'm mad at my kids.)

But my cut is more like this below. At the shoulders in front and angles up in the back:

The only downside so far is that I haven't figured out a way to pull it back for exercise. I looked ridiculous doing yoga this morning with a headband on.

Give it a few months to let the back grow out, then trim the front so it will be all one length at the bottom. Then you can still have a Lob and pull your hair back.

I've had a Lob for years which I like because I can do all sorts of styling with it, from the big spiral curls to wash and wear.

I had long layers a few years ago but they're not good for curling.

I think we have different interpretations of (long) layers. My hair is essentially one length, but there are subtle layers in the front and along the bottom to break up the monolithic look. That's what I never cared for in the classic bob, too uniform and formal looking.

Lisa - I love the lob - which is what said, basically a layered bob. Love the shorter back (which is the "bob" part) and I bet yours looks great with your curls. Have you tried just pulling your top back? Many years ago I had a layered bob - I have naturally wavy to curly hair (thick) and I always have layers. Makes the most of those curls. Anyhoo, I used to pull the top back - the longer parts. I also pinned the sides kind of up and back. It's great that you love your new style/cut - I bet it makes you feel SO good!

The bob is usually shorter than the lob. I had a bob for years and got bored with it and so went with the longer layered lob about a year ago. It's less structured than a bob and with my hair being so thick and changing texture as I age (63) I gave up on the sleeker structured bob and went with the slightly, messier (I would call it) lob look.

It was a big change for me because I like perfect control in my hair and had to give that up.

blfenton, yes, less structured is a good description.

When I had a lob, I would pull as much as I could back in a hair tie or claw clip & use clips or bobby pins to hold the side layers back.

(not in these colors, tho)
