four winds citrus quarantine update
Comments (6)I am such a fan of Bayer Crop Science products, I could be a salesman. Florida Ag as well recommends Imidacloprid, as do my citrus gurus from Texas A&M. All my Meyers get Imidacloprid twice per year; and while I might WISH that it killed bees, I never have any shortage of wild bees pollinating my trees. Why do I wish it might kill the bees?? No bees, no seeds. I have played with the idea of putting hives to make Meyer lemon honey; but I already have too many bees for my workers' safety. Here's a dirty little secret... In Argentina, the biggest exporter of Eureka lemons in the world, they put lots of bees in their lemon groves...more bees, more seeds; and the seeds are heavier than the fruit... great "plan?" if you are selling lemons by the pound. I sell my Meyers by quality; and I have nothing at all against bees; I only wish there were less of them, at least in my lemon groves....See Morecliftons or four winds or both lol- scared
Comments (3)I've ordered from both. I'd use 4winds. Mostly because bare root plants are preferable in my view. You can put them in a quality soil that will last without having to bare root them yourself. Much less traumatic for the plant and far less time consuming. The plants from 4winds will likely be smaller than the ones from Cliftons. Shipping will probably be less with 4winds. I wouldn't be put off by the bare root plants. If you pot them the same day or the next day they will be just fine. Put them in a grittyish mix or at least a high bark % mix and you will be pleased....See MoreWhat's up with Four Winds Citrus Growers?
Comments (14)Pip is correct. They will cater to their wholesale customers first. It is a known amount and is probably cheaper to ship to them than single customers. They can contract with large shipping carriers for a bulk price for delivery. In California they deliver on their own trucks. And they deliver hundreds of thousands of wholesale trees each year. For a single mail order customer they need to pick out one tree and prep it for shipping individually, and they probably pay a higher rate for shipping it, even if a few dozen are going to one customer's state. Unfortunately that's just how it is. Tim, pip is right there too. Four Winds can ship bare-root all year because the trees never are dormant like other fruit trees, and all they do is take a tree that has soil around it and wash off the soil, then pack it and mail it....See MoreBergamot Sour Orange In Stock @ Four Winds
Comments (18)Yes, enablers for sure!! Lol. Susanne, the Nagami has a strong flavor that is not for the faint of heart. I equate it to eating a ray of sunshine ;-). My daughter and husband love them and probably ate 90% of the large load on my two trees. I ate some, but I did throw some in smoothies (they are very healthy). I have also seen recipes for pies that look good. I expect a large crop this year from my two large bushes. They are beautiful trees - especially when loaded with fruit. I have not tasted any other kumquat so I have no reference point. I will try to hold off and wait for Harris for the bergamot. My trees from Harris have grown very well. You guys are tempting me so much....:-)...See Morecitrusweekendwarrior
