what is doing this to my corn and how do I stop it
Comments (18)Smallfern, If your plants are only 10" high and you've got a worm in each plant, than I don't hold out much hope for your crop. If you tug gently on the center leaves and they stay put, then the stalk is still healthy. If the worms got to the core of the plant, you'll be able to slide the leaves out without any effort and you'll see the brown slimy remains of the rotting core. Good luck. Keep them as long as the cores are still healthy, and treat the heck out of them. PS, corn is 5/$1 at the grocery store right now....See MoreMy mint plant is getting silvery spots on its leaves

Its certainly not scale, mealies or spider mite. As always, look at it with a jewellers loupe, or magnifying glass... As a keen gardener, I always carry a loupe when doing my indoor/outdoor rounds. This particular phenomenon is a sugary excretion - if not noticed quickly, it dries into a sticky crystalline spot, and leaves a transparent spot on the leaf underside. I have cleaned it off with soapy water, and a fresh water wipe afterwards Any little bugs will have been attracted to these sweet secretions, they are not the cause....See MoreJessica Skelley
