My reply is based upon the following facts. 1. There is no connection from the local power grid to your cabin. 2. The person that originally wired this cabin, followed the standard practices of the trade and the work conforms to the electrical code, including.......proper grounding of all aspects of the system. 3. And that the existing wiring system in the cabin was set up to receive 120/240 volt AC grid power at some point in the future, if it became available. The way I see it, you have two choices. You can either use a "whole house" transfer switch that will allow you to choose between the existing solar power supply or the genset. OR...... you can simply disconnect the wires from the solar power supply and tape them off inside the main panel for your cabin (fuse box/breaker box). You don't need to actually remove the wire from the fuse box itself. This would allow you to easily reconnect the solar power supply system in the future, should the need arise. The purpose of a transfer switch is to provide 100% isolation between two differing sources of power. So, one way or the other, this isolation must take place. IF you don't isolate the solar system from the genset, then the genset will feed power back into the solar supply. Damage may be done but even if it does not do damage, the solar system is a potential loss of wattage from your genset and you could also have a fire and electrical hazard. Once you disconnect the wires from the solar supply unit, you can install the correct wiring between the fuse box and wherever you are placing the genset. If your panel is a standard residential fuse or circuit breaker panel, then it requires 240 volts plus a neutral wire to connect to the genset. You also need to make sure that all grounding issues are taken care of. Some how, your genset must be grounded to the cabin's system. If you are not sure of how to go about this, then hire a licensed electrician to perform the work. Better to be safe, than electrocuted. You also need to consider that many gensets use about a gallon of gasoline per hour of run-time. If it was me, I would be looking at a diesel genset so that I could install a lockable fuel oil tank in the 250 to 500 gallon size on the property. The thought of transporting several five gallon cans of gas in my car wouldn't thrill me. No matter how hard you try not to, you will spill fuel from those containers. Gasoline is a highly inflammable and explosive fuel. You don't want those fumes inside your vehicle. Having a permanent tank that is refueled by a company with a tank truck has many benefits. Plenty of reserve fuel that is far more stable than gas and no worries about refueling a hot engine.

Sandy, I have to disagree. There are certain words I will not use because they are so offensive to others. To me they are also derogatory. Whether or not that makes them "bad" words I guess is up to you. Such as the "N" word, the "Q" word and even the word FAT when referring to someone. I don't think "a group of religious men" (what there are no religious women?) decided these were bad - to me they are offensive and out of respect for others, I do not use these words and others. I made that decision myself, not because someone told me. How is your whole comment not narrow minded? Everyone here is entitled to their own opinion. I don't believe anyone is telling you not to swear, or that they would not associate with someone who swears.

Last season, in one of the Q & A sessions that Dalton Ross does with Jeff Probst, the subject of a tie came up and Jeff said that if there were a tie at the final tribal, then the person not involved in the tie would cast the final, deciding, vote. If you think about it, this is what they do in "regular" tribal councils when there is a tie vote to oust someone. The folks who are tied do not get to vote again, and everyone else votes again with votes only being cast for one or the other of the folks who are tied. Ok, now for "how and when it was planned." When everyone is done voting at a tribal council, Jeff always says, "I'll go tally the votes." Then he comes back and dramatically pulls them from the urn and reads them. If Jeff just grabbed the urn and brought it back to his post and started randomly pulling them out and reading them, it would not be nearly as dramatic as it has been. That's because when he goes off to "tally the votes," he actually looks at each one, and then they are arranged in the urn in a manner that will provide the most drama as they are being read. In last night's case, when Jeff previewed the votes and saw that there was a tie, he knew he HAD to read them out loud to the group right then and there, because he knew that Laurel would have to cast the deciding vote. No, he couldn't have waited and had Laurel cast the vote at the beginning of the reunion show, because it would have been a tainted vote. Think about it -- when they are on location, they have no idea what is going on. They only know what they see and hear. They don't know what another player is saying to the camera in the "confessional" interviews; they don't know what other players and saying to each other behind someone's back, etc. By the time the live shows rolls around, they've been home for several months, and they've watched every episode on tv, just like we have. That final vote needed to be cast in a manner that represented what Laurel felt at the time, uninfluenced by outside factors.

He will be fully retired in a few months at 62yo. He’s not 100% ready to retire mentally, but physically he is falling apart (degenerative disc disease, arthritis - neck, back, knees, hands). He can’t do much without getting hurt. His big thing has always been walking, swimming and working out. Now he’s able to walk (but not as fast or far), only tread water (no more laps) and working out with weights or doing CrossFit anymore is a no-no. His only hobby besides that is reading. Glad it was caught early. dedtired, my gallbladder was removed about 20yrs ago. My advice (and I know everyone is different) but know where ALL the bathrooms are when you are out and about. For months, it would hit me out of nowhere. I wasn’t eating fried foods or salads (a big trigger for awhile). A nurse told me a few months later that if they told people some of the side effects of having the surgery, many would not have it removed. It does get better though. Sorry to hear about your skin cancer, Lars.. and the loss of your family members, texanjana. I feel for you on the executor/estate issues. My parents passed six weeks apart, and it took 2yrs to get Mom’s estate return blessed, and I am still waiting on Dad’s. You have a lot of on your plate the past few years, and your DS. We moved a year ago, and I’m enjoying the new house. It’s great to be closer to town, our children and grandchildren. DD2 just celebrated their 1st anniversary. We love her DH, and he obviously loves both of them - a package deal with DGS. One of our dogs tore her ACL and Meniscus, and it nearing the end of the 6 weeks of being on a leash, which was after 6 weeks in the crate. I hope and pray her other one does not blow, but the odds are 50/50 within the first year. At least I have the crates and supplies, along with the experience, if it happens to her other rear leg. She is such a sweetie, it was heartbreaking. Oh, and she did it only 4 days after we had to put one of our 13yo dogs down. Our 12yo Lab has seizures, and had 2 in 3 days about a month ago. We thought he was going to be gone too, but he has not had another seizure since then. We have several short trips planned, mostly to concerts. DH would like to globetrot again, so if we can get him feeling well enough to go, I will force myself (I am such a homebody, I would rather stay at home!).
