Who's grown these orientals? (marco polo, tom pouce, olivia)?
Comments (11)Tom Pouce was beautiful its first year of blooming, but not as attractive the 2nd year--a bit blotchy, and a couple of the plants did not return. I've heard from others that oriental lilies are not long-lasting plants. That may be what's wrong with my Tom Pouce, but I'll hold out for one more year and hope it turns out all right. Here's Tom at his best--his first year in my garden. I've been buying more orienpet lilies lately--they seem sturdier and more reliable than the oriental lilies. But I'm hoping that my Tom Pouce manages to hang in there--it is such a lovely lily. In terms of number of blooms, Ego's pic looks about right, but the second year, bloom count was noticeably less. Part of the oriental lily decline pattern? I don't know. If you want a highly floriferous lily, again--the orienpet lilies are the way to go--very heavy bloomers, at least in my experience. As for scent, sorry, but I just don't remember. Kate...See MoreHAVE: Spring Swap in San Marcos
Comments (26)Beautiful day for our swap and I really did like the Buda park location, although I miss seeing the river in San Marcos. It was fun meeting some new swappers and I love all my new plants. I am sorry that John is moving to NM but I will take good care of his salvia karwinskii and hope I can share some of it next spring. Brarygirl, your cacti violacae is doing well at my house (traded 2 yrs. back) and I heard others talking about the same plant they had gotten from you. That's so neat---sort of like plant geneology. ha. Thank you, Charlotte, for organizing us again. Everyone, the food was great, especially Carla's sausage and rice. Marjie PS: If your meant me, Diana. The big plant was a brugmansia Desiree....See MoreMany thanks to the generous seed sharers and swappers on this site! :)
Comments (0)I wanted to just post a special thank you to the many generous people who have shared and swapped your seeds with me and my students :) as a public school SLP, most expenses for supplies I get for our school Garden of Hope come directly out of my pocket. As a result of the generosity and help from growers on this site, we will have plenty of seeds for our school garden and flower beds and some we will be able to share through special seed projects with all the children in our elementary school! :) what a blessing you all have been! I cannot thank you enough! :) we will be paying it forward this summer when we share our produce and some of our vegetable plants with our local food pantries and local growers who give back to those same food pantries. My students are bubbling over with excitement at all our growing possibilities! Thank you, thank you, thank you!...See MoreHow to thank a generous friend
Comments (9)I think you treating them to meals and drinks during your stay is more than generous! They may actually refuse some of it - I would! We have pricey club level NFL and NHL tickets that we often give to friends and we wouldn't dream of taking money for them. It feels funny especially since they are prepaid. (If there are big Championship games we cant attend, we will sell them, but not to friends). If we go to the game with them, our friends will often offer to pay for drinks or food. Not exactly the same thing but we also have a beach house that we invite our friends too. We buy extra beach passes for them to use, again we would never ask for payment. Often our friends will bring something nice to the house or take us to dinner. The only sticky situation we ever run into is if friends ask to rent our beach house, we wouldn't dream of asking for money from them so our answer is no. We tell them we don't rent out our house, which is true....See MoreDenise
