I generally use 3-4 petunias in a 12" pot and they fill out and trail nicely. With the pot you are going to use I would think a few in the top and a few a hole or two down would produce a very full display. In terms of how many seeds I would figure an 80% germination rate.

You're welcome. Some seeds are very tiny, and I was wondering: how in a world do I count those. Yes, like sedum that are the size of dust, or butterfly bush seeds, that look like short pieces of very thin hair. Even sending 25-50 or more of those doesn't look like anything at all. I have had members trade/share maybe 15 or so poppy seeds with me and I was thrilled. They were special hybrid varieties and had been purchased commercially. The amount one gets when buying commercially might be quite small, so I was thrilled with what I got. Often when members save seeds from poppies they have an abundance of seeds. In a case such as members trading saved poppy seeds, quantities vary greatly. Some might send 1/8ts, others 1/4ts, and others might send a whole bunch! I received a massive amount in a trade last fall, and there were so many that I saved myself a few, and have the rest listed for trade and I send 1/4ts. Often a member only really wants or needs enough to get a few plants going, so they can then save seeds themselves. Yes...good communication assures no one being disappointed in seed quantity. Sue

Hi, Sorry I did not reply back. I held my annual tomato party yesterday so between that and other things, I never stopped back. About the legitimate sources, I find that often some people I know post from a fringe what I like to call hippy dippy trippy websites as opposed to say CBS or the New York Times. The bigger sources may still make mistakes, but smaller overly gung-ho ones do not have the resources to check a story and may jump the gun and publish something to be debunked later. Like there was a recent super weed study. A friend published from a site I've never heard of. So I did a quick search and found the info on a few well known places. So I picked a well written one with quotes from farmers and posted that. I did google "GMO Basil" to see what came up, and you are right all that all these places come up "Non-GMO" Basil! But it isn't Monsanto, many companies unfortunately like to make money off people's fears. I go to many a site where I'll see in bold letters NON_GMO SEED!!, and that drives me nuts. It is like the Patriot Seed site. That one plays off of people's GMO fears, doomsday fears, seems USA proud, etc. Or there are some seed companies that throw religious stuff on their pages to make themselves look Christian and make more money. Sometimes people spend the money and never receive seeds. There's even a place that sell tomato seeds that advertises most everything as RARE! They are known to change seed names/description to sell more seed. Oh and even advertise them as organic, but they have no certifications. I just thought of another place with an organic sounding name, but none of their stuff is actually certified organic, and they charge way way too much for seed. Unfortunately there are people with shady business practices and scammers everywhere. About buying GMO free processed products, I often forget that other areas of the country do not have excellent stores like Wegmans that have designated non GMO areas where you can buy products and not worry about that. Shopping in good places like that does help. You can find lists on the internet of companies and products. I'm attaching Green Peace's list because it also includes non GMO stuff as well. All of this reminds me of the time I saw a lady in Wegmans flipping out over the very large radishes that were on display. She was screaming about GMO radishes being for sale and how could Wegmans do that. Since she had never seen such big radishes, she assumed they were GMO, and no one could convince her otherwise. They were just a large variety like German Giant. So I guess my point is it is good to have a healthy dose of skepticism, but not hysteria. : ) I have not seen the movie in its entirely so thank you for the link! Mine are just filled with lavender, & they do well, both at craft shows & wholesale. Could be with the mints & the rosemary it may be too sharp of a smell. Also, the mints & rosemary are "invigorating", the chamomile & lavender "soothing, calmning", so they may be getting "mixed" messages via the limbic system. Just a guess, it may be a pleasnt smelling mix, BUT not achiving the goal you are hoping for-SLEEP. I too am cautious about other business's, but we are far enough apart, even WITH the internet, that we aren't in direct competition, other than both being in B&B. Eventually we may end up carrying some of the same scents, but even still that's not bad. One of my first wholesale customers was also in B&B, & had a web site.....that's HOW i got mine, I went through the web folks she used..... anyway, she bought stuff from me BECAUSE it was quality stuff she didn't carry, & going to craft shows she couldn't keep up, so she bought some stuff from me, & made some of her own. She also sold my stuff on her web site & ebay......but I DON'T sell my soap on ebay, so it was no problem..... But some competitors don't play nicely....I have one locally who is constantly trying to find out where i get my scents, etc......I'm VERY catious around her, not to say much of ANYTHING...... I'll watch for your booklets, & then get one off to the family! Hazel
