Ensure ice cream
Comments (2)Jo, thanks for posting. I agree with Jkom that there might be better tasting liquid drinks out there. But the concept remains the same. And I imagine that sometimes having the mouth feel of more solid food might be a great benefit for our elderly loved ones. I know my mom did not care for shakes, malts, and liquidy things. But she still enjoyed ice cream to the end. She was in a memory care unit and knew that Ensure was for sick people. But ice cream, on the other hand, was for everybody!...See MoreEnsure ice cream
Comments (15)There are other protein drinks similar to Ensure that taste a lot better. I mostly drink PureProtein, but I also like Owyn Protein Shake but it is a bit more expensive. They have a coffee flavored drink that is especially good, but it has a fair amount of caffeine in it. IMO you should not be adding sugar and especially not corn syrup to protein drinks. I have occasionally added coffee liqueur or Frangelico to mine, but in very small quantities. If I were going to make ice cream out of it, I would mix it in a blender with a banana, some yogurt, and some Splenda for sweetener. Or I might mix it with coconut milk. I have an ice cream machine with a compressor, and so I am make ice cream at any time on demand, although I really do not use it that much any more....See MoreKinetico K5 drinking water system questions
Comments (13)Hi Grey Parrot, great idea, we will definitely pull this out and take it with us when we move, as in NYC, the cost for the K5 with all pre and post filters, installed, was $2260! There is apparently only 1 distributor for NYC - Westfair Water. I dealt with Frank (the son, not Frank the father) and he was very nice. Actually, the price would have been $2460, but they took off $200 when I waffled on it due to price. I called a distributor in another part of the country and it was about $500 less, but we are used to paying a LOT more for everything here, as taxes and real estate are super high. One of the other tradespeople who did work on our renovation said that they automatically add $200 to jobs in Manhattan (he was located in the Bronx) just to cover a parking ticket (?? about $125 I think he said), tolls, extra time, and aggravation. I appreciated his honesty. I will say, I am happy with with the K5 - there is a big difference in the taste of the water. Also, we are no longer buying bottled water, so I guess there is a slight offset in price there (although we did not spend very much on bottled water - just to go to the gym and stuff, but now we can fill a stainless steel water bottle at home.) If we did not live in an apartment building, I would want a whole house filter - as it is, we just have it at the kitchen sink. Hope this info will be useful to others - I have appreciated the wealth of information on this website!...See MoreI need a boost, or a hug, or a drink or a cry...
Comments (28)I'm so sorry. But this too shall pass and your home will ultimately be wonderful. Ditto what others have said. I would add to that, going forward DOCUMENT EVERYTHING IN WRITING: the ridiculous explanation ("Joe Installer explained to me that the framers should have built the base 1/2" less than specified in the specs but also noted that the framers would have had no way of knowing this..."), and every further conversation and discussion with the framers, installer, etc. Visibly take notes during your next meeting with Joe Installer and write down your questions and his answers and explanations. Ask him to read, date and countersign said notes when your discussion is over. If you are concerned about how a discussion will go, ask a neighbor or friend to be with you during the discussion. The purpose of this friend or neighbor is not just moral support and watching the kiddos, but he/she will stay within earshot and you will also ask her/him to sign your notes as a witness, in front of Joe Installer. This is particularly important if, for example, Joe Installer declines to sign himself. If nothing else, seeing this the subcontractors will begin to take you more seriously and pay extra attention. If needed, these documents will be extremely helpful if you do have to take legal action to get this resolved without paying for a re-do. Been there, done that (not in my current remodel, thank goodness), it works. IMHO, no b-ness is required. You have the facts and logic in your favor. Combined with a calm, no-nonsense, professional manner you will make him see that the only acceptable choice is for him/his firm to eat the cost of redoing it correctly. Looking forward to hearing about your successful resolution of this!...See Morecaflowerluver
