Fire fox help

I have had to totally reboot my Windows 7 hp laptop. I E version is not supported. Which means I can't install my avast anti virus. Can someone please link me to Firefox to do an install?

I am posting here from my phone. I downloaded Firefox, then avast free. Tomorrow I will figure out how to get my paid version installed but for now I wanted antivirus before I went very far. I did a smart scan after getting the free version installed. It is now installing I E 11.

I had a corrupted system file and my computer guru nephew had to install an old Windows 7 start up disc to back everything up. I had most of it already backed up but he wanted to get all my photos and documents to be safe. He then did a total restore to factory settings. Now I get to reinstall everything. Slow going! This was the first things I wanted done. Don't want to get a virus while getting set up again.

Printer, scanner, word, ect all have to be done.

Thank you. I have spent a hour on this! I can't install my avast until I have a working browser. Appreciate your help.

yes that is a bad one there are many variations of the trogan agent. I would highly recommend you head back to LzD forum and start a new thread there and go through the cleaning process. Tell them the above info. Go update your malwarebytes program and run the full scan with it also and post that log for them.

nope none at all which version of firefox are you using? click Help at the top then about to find that have you checked for any updates to firefox click Help> check for updates, and any of your add ons? I would try that and also clear your cache, click tools>clear private data

I wonder if you've cleared your history-cache-cookies lately. I also am curious what version you're running, and how many add-ons you've added to it. If you want to uninstall a program, you typically don't start "deleting" things...unless you want more problems than you had before. Millions of people use Firefox with great success. If you think Firefox is the problem, I predict you'll be just as unhappy with Safari or any other browser. I think you're having a PEBKAC day.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me, Richard. I have been trying your suggestions, but is -> the same as >? I've been trying various combinations of space, dash, and >, but am not familiar with the combination of a dash and >. Anyway, I did finally figure out that Pale Moon has not disabled Scrapbook. But all its contents are still missing, no matter what I do. At some point, I also got to Scrapbook in my FF profile, but then nothing inside it led to a solution. The best I could do was to choose the browser to open an .rdf file, which resulted--depending on what I clicked on--in messages: (1) "This XML file (Huh? I thought it was RDF.) does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below" and some meaningless repetitions of RDF and "urn:scrapbook:root" that took me to a very confusing list of unhelpful things when I clicked on it, and (2) an extremely long list of items in a blue font, some of which bore a resemblance to things that might have been in Scrapbook, while others did not, all smashed together with no organization and impossible to use. I suppose this was for the same reason mentioned in (1), that there was no style information associated with it. I am considering that "last resort." I'm tempted to go ahead with sys restore immediately, but as it happens, the only restore point is 9/12, which was well before PM was installed, so to be polite, I will wait to see if anyone on the Pale Moon forum (where I have posted about this problem) offers a solution. Somehow, I despair of success in this case, and I'll probably have to give up on the lost Scrapbook entries and then decide whether or not all the trouble and confusion are worth sticking with Pale Moon. The way it and Firefox seem to be communicating and changing things in each other behind the scenes might drive me crazy. I've never come across anything like that before.

What do you mean I E is not supported? I E is built into Microsoft 7.

Doyou have the most up-to-date version on the laptop?

You should be able to open Windows Explorer by right clicking your start button and choosing 'Open Windows Explorer'. You can cut and paste the URL that plllog posted in the address bar and press enter. How are you posting here without a browser? Alternately, you could upgrade to IE 11 and have no further version conflicts. Don't forget that you will need to allow administrator changes to install software on Window 7.

He sure is! I would be lost without him. I would certainly be poorer. He is $75 richer. He won't ask for a penny, but this was well worth it to me. I would have spent a lot more on a new one.

I had megga troubles with IE on my Win 7 computer all of last week. Finally installed Firefox and everything seems to be working better. I'm afraid that old computer might be telling me something. I need to get my computer cousin down here. There are 4 computers in this house. Why do I worry they will all go down at once? I would rather clean the toilet and the oven than get a new computer and operating system. My computers are networked and I save things on each of them especially for back up. I used to use synctoy but I won't any more. It doesn't work like it used to and creates more problems than it fixes so I just save to each computer from which ever one I'm working on. That way I have it 3 times for sure. I've been having download failure at familysearch today. Is it me or is it them?

I haven't used I E in several years. I started having trouble with it and went to Firefox. I tried chrome but didn't care fire it.
