Fire fox help

I have had to totally reboot my Windows 7 hp laptop. I E version is not supported. Which means I can't install my avast anti virus. Can someone please link me to Firefox to do an install?

I am posting here from my phone. I downloaded Firefox, then avast free. Tomorrow I will figure out how to get my paid version installed but for now I wanted antivirus before I went very far. I did a smart scan after getting the free version installed. It is now installing I E 11.

I had a corrupted system file and my computer guru nephew had to install an old Windows 7 start up disc to back everything up. I had most of it already backed up but he wanted to get all my photos and documents to be safe. He then did a total restore to factory settings. Now I get to reinstall everything. Slow going! This was the first things I wanted done. Don't want to get a virus while getting set up again.

Printer, scanner, word, ect all have to be done.

Thank you. I have spent a hour on this! I can't install my avast until I have a working browser. Appreciate your help.

I appreciate the information and suggestions. I never had the View Point media player, to my knowledge, but the Add-on was in FF, sure enough, though now disabled. I have been having all kinds of trouble, Spyware Doctor and DoubleAntiVirus installing but giving the message that they failed to initialize...well, I won't bore you with it all. I decided that Ravencajun was right, and I needed help from a specialized forum, so I posted on LandsDown, which I think Zep recommended to someone else here. Today, I discovered that something (not me!) had changed the location for my downloads in FF to "Downloads," though I had it set up to download to the desktop. Ulp! Zep: Googling trojan Hiloti was one of the first things I did after Spyware Doctor discovered it in my computer. SD said you had to pay if you wanted to remove the infected files, so I did, but no matter what I did after that, I couldn't even get it to scan again, and the registration number they emailed me, while it sufficed to register for an account at their site, was consistently refused when I tried to register the software. So far, PCTools has not replied to my emails about SD, but perhaps I haven't given them enough time. Very disappointed. The SD icon in the systray also caused TrendMicro Internet Security to hang and the mouse to freeze, so I removed it from startup, but it came back later. So, thumbs down from me to Spyware Doctor. I hope they return my money!

I have Firefox 3.6.16. If I click on Tools, About Mozilla Firefox is at the bottom of the list. It tells what version I have. Above that in the drop down box is Check for Updates. I do that and it tells me there is a new version available, and the choices are Ask later, No Thanks or Get the new version. I haven't gotten the new version; waiting to see what others say about it. Pam: Ah, if only it were! *History* I get by clicking on the cat icon with the clock, and the history menu drops down on the *left* side of the screen. You can see where this one is, and I get this menu by clicking on the thing like double parentheses next to the star in the address window. Besides, as I said, I have had History turned off for a long time and that side bar is empty. The items in this menu happen to be mostly things I have only visited once or twice and are by no means representative of my browsing history. If they were, it might be of some use. Owbist: Thanks. I wasn't looking for speed or accessibility. I just don't like having something whose method of working and management I don't know. It bothers me! It even bothers me that I don't know its name, so I am hampered in looking for a solution. Linesman: Your message just came in. That seemed to do the trick, and I was thinking Yippee! But, alas, the sites didn't stay deleted. They disappeared when I highlighted them and clicked Delete, but the minute I clicked on the "parentheses" mark that brings up that menu, there they all were again. Closing and reopening FF didn't make a speck of difference. I have found that clicking on the star in the URL window adds a new site. So half of the mystery is solved, but the half that most interests me is the deleting part! LOL I think I'm going to have to uninstall and reinstall FF, but even that may not help.

What do you mean I E is not supported? I E is built into Microsoft 7.

Doyou have the most up-to-date version on the laptop?

You should be able to open Windows Explorer by right clicking your start button and choosing 'Open Windows Explorer'. You can cut and paste the URL that plllog posted in the address bar and press enter. How are you posting here without a browser? Alternately, you could upgrade to IE 11 and have no further version conflicts. Don't forget that you will need to allow administrator changes to install software on Window 7.

He sure is! I would be lost without him. I would certainly be poorer. He is $75 richer. He won't ask for a penny, but this was well worth it to me. I would have spent a lot more on a new one.

I had megga troubles with IE on my Win 7 computer all of last week. Finally installed Firefox and everything seems to be working better. I'm afraid that old computer might be telling me something. I need to get my computer cousin down here. There are 4 computers in this house. Why do I worry they will all go down at once? I would rather clean the toilet and the oven than get a new computer and operating system. My computers are networked and I save things on each of them especially for back up. I used to use synctoy but I won't any more. It doesn't work like it used to and creates more problems than it fixes so I just save to each computer from which ever one I'm working on. That way I have it 3 times for sure. I've been having download failure at familysearch today. Is it me or is it them?

I haven't used I E in several years. I started having trouble with it and went to Firefox. I tried chrome but didn't care fire it.
