Comments (4)I whole heartedly agree. But a discussion on the Aroid l board yesterday pointed out very well the market will simply bear what the market will bear. If people in one part of the world are willing to pay way more than a plant is worth, well, that's just "show business". But it is certainly a strange phenomenon. Apparently this same "phenomenon" has swept that part of the world before. They've often gone crazy over obtaining common plants while paying extremely high prices we'll likely never understand. Just stand out of their way until it is over! And it will end!...See MoreWhy does this tile look so awful, and what can I do about it?!
Comments (4)Yup, old gunk of some sort that needs to be removed from the slate. Try getting it off by escalating through the various possibilities-- industrial strength wax stripper, ammonia, various organic solvents (with very good ventilation, denatured alcohol, acetone, Goof-Off etc) and then paint stripper starting with something like SafeStrip and moving to one with dichloromethane (again with very good ventilation) until you find something that takes it off. (I don't mean you should use all of them, just go from the gentlest to harshest until you find the one that is sufficient to the job). The good news is that its a rock and hard to hurt in any serious way. Once you get it to soften a scrub brush will get into the cracks. Wire brushes or abrasive pads can scratch the slate and should be avoided (white or gray Scotch-brite is OK, but doesn't do much. Red or green will probably scratch). Once it's clean apply a good quality sealer from a flooring supply place or as recommended by a stone yard-- it will look bad after it's been cleaned, but a coat of sealer will bring it back to like new....See MoreWhy does my succulent look so sad?
Comments (15)Katelyn, so it sounds like you have recently watered this plant but the leaves are still shrivelled? Couple of other things may be worth considering: could be that the plant has lost it's roots to rot (or a pest), try giving the plant a gentle tug to see if it comes away from the soil. If the plant feels firmly rooted, another possibility is that the roots are situated in a clump of hydrophobic peat which the water is not penetrating. You may need to consider digging the plant up in order to find out exactly what is going on. Andrew...See MoreWhy do my first blooms look so bad?
Comments (24)Hello, I am sorry that you actually have thrips. They are very annoying, but finding them is the first step to getting them under control. I just spent all weekend removing every bloom and bud from my roses (over 150). It was a painful thing to do as they were loaded with unopened buds, but a quick look into those buds showed me it needed to be done. If you can make yourself do it I would remove every single bloom and bud into a trash bag, and then spray with whatever you prefer. I read that doing this a good way to tackle the thrips on the heirloom website ( they said to spray with an organic product)....See MoreJordana Johnson
