What is on your plant wish list for 2009
Comments (11)This time of year I always wish I had more evergreens. The garden looks too sparse. A couple more dwarf false cypress would be nice. Once spring comes and the peonies put on their show, I will forget all about evergreens though. I don't have gay paree or athena (herbaceous peonies) and I want them. But something else will have to go to make room and I have trouble deciding what I no long love enough.... Moving for more land is out of the question. I can't leave my enormous dogwood and the 25 year old fig trees. I hesitate to admit this because rose growing friends have hooted and made fun of me but I am so charmed by the knock-out rose (the original one radrazz) growing in the park that I want one of those too....See MoreSo what;s on your Christmas Wish list....
Comments (30)I had an external hard drive and loved it. I had it set for auto back up every 3 days. It worked flawlessly for almost 5 years. I now have an extra hard drive so no need for the Iomega. For Christmas this year, actually I'd like this present before Christmas, I'd like all the finish work completed in our home. I thought we'd be having a nice Christmas without sawdust but maybe we will celebrate for Valentines Day. In lieu of the woodwork.... I'd like a round bread mold. A Popover Pan. A extra vacuum. Several cutting boards, 10by12" or smaller. A mandoline. A folding step ladder with at least 2 steps. I need one that folds up as small as possible for easy storage but tall enough so I can reach the top shelves. A new potato ricer, mine is on it's last legs. Comments (11)Hello all, I am glad I looked. The date is set in my calendar. Lorabell: you gave me a plant that looked like a onion and had skinny and fleshee leaves coming out of it. Has that ever bloomed for you? Well, ... mine is blooming now. I had a BUNCH of stuff blooming in the greenhouse. Karen, you didn't tell me it is THAT awesome with a greenhouse!!! Cacti that have never bloomed before, stuff growing like crazy, Wow, super cool! (well, yes, I am excited for spring!) Vlad...See MoreWhat is on your 2020 wish list ?
Comments (86)Well, I advanced two purchases and just picked up a Pinata and Calico Gal from High Country Roses. I picked them both with a bud each so I could see a flower this year. Pinata was the only rose I found that in several descriptions people said it "preferred" shade, not "tolerated" shade. So we shall see.... It isn't the color/size I would have chosen if I had all the colors to choose from in the world but shade performance had to take priority. Calico Gal captivated me one time and I keep eye balling it. Since the stock is so reduced in the fall there wasn't alot to distract me so I decided to just get it and stop wishing for it. It was about 100 degrees here today. But it was hot at the green houses also so I think we'll just pop them in the ground with out hardening them off. I feel like they are likely already hardened. I talked to Matt about Zephirine Drouhin , which he loves, but he said it was like an accordion in Colorado. Some years it was up on his roof and some years, after a bad winter, it had alot of die back. So I'm giving up on it. So my new 2020 wish list is: Love Song maybe Gentle Persuasian (my light colors - Sally Holmes and Golden wings are Japanese Beetle magnets so I really have to think about adding more light roses, Iceberg is not though. Very odd.) maybe Westerland - I have to see the blooms in person first. Tangerine Skies. Looks so beautiful. Would love to see the blooms first. I suspect in the spring I'm going to be back to wanting really hardy roses and trying to not be swayed by gorgeous greenhouse blooms....See Morethemockturtle
