How high do you need to raise the vanity? Maybe a simple piece of plywood ( 3/4" ) would be enough? Just paint it a similar color to the base of the vanity. A couple of spots of hot glue to keep both pieces together. When you open the vanity doors (to access the plumbing) you should see a 4" strip of wood across the back of the vanity. Use this to afix the vanity to the wall.

My parents house is like that, but there’s a wall with a wide doorway into the area with the vanity, so it’s open but also easy to close off by just putting a curtain rail up. It’s also oriented to the room such that if you only use enough light at the vanity to wash your hands for a midnight potty run, it really isn’t enough to bother someone in the bed if you place the bed sensibly. Getting ready in the morning would be trickier if you needed to do makeup and so on so needed proper lighting, so that’s where a screen or a curtain would come in.

Thanks! It really does "wander." The mosaic has a repeating "pattern" that isn't quite square/even, which made the tile guys really work at installing it. (The split-face mosaic in the other bathroom drove them even crazier trying to get it to line up to their exacting standards!)

I'm curious why you say the bathroom cannot be made handicapped accessible? If necessary, the tub can be replaced with a walk-in (my sister did that in her house, for no reason other than she liked the look). Or, alternatively, there are companies who can cut a section of a regular tub away, and refinish, so it's more accessible to someone who is not as agile as they once were (my mom's apt. building had that done for her when she could no longer 'climb' into the tub). Maneuvering a wheel chair in a small room might be a challenge, but I'd think that in a pinch, it would be possible to at least go straight in, and back out, if necessary. So, I'd go with the wider door. Side note--I've got that quilt laid out on my new sewing room floor, in my new house (where I have almost no furniture in any of the rooms yet, since we're still in transition, too). Hope your quilt is as lovely as mine is turning out! And best of luck with the new place--we're at the same stage--deciding what to fix, how to fix it, and trying to figure out where to put all the stuff in all the boxes.....
