20 hp briggs govenor problem
Comments (5)"The engine runs wide open with the gov attached, the shaft coming out of the engine has no resistance when the engine runs, so I assume the gov assy is broke, do I have to remove and diasassemble the engine?" Yes. I think these have a history of problems with the governor shaft. I THINK I have a PDF of the Service Manual for this engine if you would like it. Address below, put in proper format and remind me. Walt Conner wconner5 at frontier dot com...See MoreNeed to pull my H&G DV fireplace to fix air leaks... advice?
Comments (0)I have a heat and glow fireplace, standard builder equipment. Unfortunately the bump-out has the standard "not sealed right" problem of drafts and smells, so I need to pull the fireplace. Plan is to pull, measure the insides and verify insulation type and location, as well as the install of the firestop and piping. I don't believe they drywalled in the cavity, so if the measurements work, put up a vapor barrier and drywall. Then re-install the same unit. The only real issue I have, for now, is taking the fireplace out. It looks like I need to unscrew it from the framing inside of the bottom and top cavities of the fireplace, disconnect gas and electric, and the wall switch, which is all pretty simple simple. Then it looks like I might need to either just cut the high temp caulk between the marble and the fireplace or I need to remove the marble side pieces, but I'm not sure. What do you think? Do I need to remove the marble or both the marble and mantle? Or can I just slide the unit out after unbolting from the inside? If I need to remove the marble, I am not quite sure the best way to do it. It has to have some adhesive behind it and I don't want to break anything since I want ti to all go back right how it is....See MoreNeed advice on how to fix garden statue exterior
Comments (1)they make stain especially for concrete. It will also help seal and protect your statue from further deterioration. Make sure it is good and clean first, dish detergent and a scrub brush, followed by just a good rinse and allow to dry thoroughly for several days before attempting the stain. Make sure you stain and seal the bottom of the base too. one of the best things you can do for it is to keep it from contact with soil. rest its base on another piece of concrete or on gravel. constant contact with the soil will introduce extra moisture into the cement and expansion and contraction of the cement will be increased during heat and cold periods by the moisture retained in the concrete. best wishes...See MoreHow to handle parent pop- ins
Comments (61)Seems to me, (on topic about parent pop ins) that you have a reasonable request to make to your parents. Try to explain that your circumstances have changed, that your lifestyle has changed, and that while you do love them and want to see them, you have to ration your time more carefully. Let them know you want to give the your full attention when you can be with them, and scheduled visits allow for that. Having said that, I find that the longer parents are retired, the more they get out of touch with people who don't have the schedule flexibility that they do. Also old folks brain flexibility does (sometimes!) take a hit. I know my dad went ballistic one day because he wanted me to "run down" to the car dealership with him for what he expected to be a 15 min. trip. Problem was, I was on my way to teach a class and no way did I have any time flexibility, no margin for unexpected delays. My dad said the most unreasonable things to me when I just asked him if I could do it the next day. And this was a spur of the moment request on his part. He said I didn't care about him and never did anything to help him and he hoped I was late. Totally ridiculous. (BTW I did run the errand with him the next day, it took and hour, and he never said BOO about all the over the top nasty things he said the day before). But then my dad is having lots of mental issues in his old age. Senility characterized by forgetfulness and inability to do daily tasks is not the only kind of mental problems old folks have (sometimes). There can be all sorts of other processing problems, which creep up on them bit by bit. So it may be a tough go with your folks, you can't always have reasonable discussions with parents, sad to say....See Moremike_kaiser_gw
