Hypertufa Project Idea

I have never made anything out of hypertufa so I really don't know if my idea will work and I am looking for input from those who have.
I have a lighthouse that belonged to my father. He made a pier out of wood and is falling apart. I was hoping to create my own pier (using his as a mold).
My thoughts are this:
Place his pier on a tarp and cover with plastic and chicken wire (putting dowels where the lighthouse will be secured to the pier). Then I thought I would mix the hypertufa and pat it onto the chicken wire and "create" my new pier. While still wet I was thinking of placing rocks (decorative ones you buy at craft or dollar stores) along the base. Also putting pre-constructed white fence around the area where the lighthouse will be. Again while the hypertufa is still wet.
I just need to know if this is a crazy/impossible idea or if you think it is possible. If you think it won't work, please tell me why. If you have suggestions I would appreciate them.
Thank you,
Linda
