What did you do this weekend? Aug. 6-7
Comments (11)Theresa, hope you get back to sewing soon. The rest of you were busy and got at least some sewing done. I am with Theresa...thought about sewing/quilting but got nothing done in that area. Saturday was cleanup day so not much else was done. DH and I did get to Tims for coffee/tea and a Fruit Explosion muffin. During the late evening DH went salmon fishing and caught 2 Atlantic salmon. Fresh salmon for supper this evening....looking forward to that! He was so pleased with his catch but we totally forgot to take pics. Sunday was a 50th birthday get together for my brain-injured brother....at the hospital. You could tell he was enjoying all the fuss although he did say he was home and later told me he was at a friend's house. He lives in the moment....a blessing for him, in a way, but difficult for the family to witness. He has very little short term memory. We had 18 family/friends show up with gifts and best wishes. Lots of pics taken and lots of chatter. This week I have promised myself I will get back to serious quilting and to watching my diet. I've been feeding my emotions and that is not a good thing...... lots of 'bad' food. ~Geraldine...See MoreWhat Are You Doing this Weekend?
Comments (22)On Sunday I was treated to a delightful day out. My DD, my DGD and her DH and my 11 year 0ld DGGS took me to the Riverside Center Dinner Theater, in Fredericksburg, VA. a pleasant two hour drive from here. The Center was built for the purpose and it is just lovely, with beautifully set tables, cosy lighting and tiered seating, so everyone has a good view of the stage. Some of the waiters are also actors in the play. The play? The Phantom! I have seen the movie (twice) but this production is based on Gaston Leroux's novel The Phantom of the Opera, which is considered by critics as eminently equal to its more famous Andrew Lloyd Webber's version. I have to admit my ignorance in that I did not know that, and I also learned that there was a movie in 1943, with Claude Rains, and Nelson Eddy. This was the most gratifying day I've had for a long time. I had had a rough time from January to May, health wise, and I'm still dealing with some of it. My "kids" planned this and surprised me with it, and it was just perfect! I'm adding the link, so you can get an idea of what it was like. Sue Here is a link that might be useful: Riverside Center...See MoreWhat Are You Doing This Weekend?
Comments (18)I have a filled weekend. 1. Saturday: Went to a quarry with a rock hound club to hunt for fossils. This quarry is about 60 miles fro my house. On the way home, stopped in at Menard's to pick up supplies for combating a woodpecker who wants to destroy my house. 2. Sunday morning: Attend the annual "Early Day Equipment Show" in the park in my town. There will be an antique car show in the morning. This won't have specialty autos from the '60s and '70s. These will be truly old ones, earlier than 1940. Maybe the Reo and Mack trucks will be there. The final drive on the Mack was a roller chain. Could be the Depression Tractor will show up. This was a kit sold bt Sears & Roebuck in the 1930s. It was a kit to assemble a crude tractor. You could buy it with or without a transmission. Typically, the owner mounted a Model T or A engine that he already had to complete the tractor. The equipment show will have plenty of steam engines and Oil Pull tractors. A sawmill will be runnning powered by a 65 HP Case steam engine or a Keck Gonnerman. The unique feature about this show is that if an engine is capable of running, it will be operating. One year, an engine, propeller, and other parts for a Curtis Wright 1911 Pusher Airplane was for sale. 3. Patch 2 holes made by a woodpecker in second story window frames and clad over with pre-painted aluminum to strop the destructive critter. I have similar windows on both the front and back of my house, but the woodpecker is attacking only the front ones. The difference is that the front windows are flanked by rough sawn redwood batten boards. The wood pecker gets an easy grip on the rough redwood. I do not think it is looking for insects. From the evidence, its pecking out a protected place to hole up in this winter....See MoreWhat Are You Doing This Weekend?
Comments (34)I am hoping everyone has a wonderful (and safe) New Years Eve and a happy New Years. We're out in Colorado with DD and SIL. DH and SIL hit the mountain before DD and I were up and we met them on the mountain around 10:30. Today was my first day skiing, my legs aren't up to a full or even a half day, so I just did a pre lunch solo run to test out my turns(did well) and then after lunch SIL did our annual MIL/SIL run down our favorite run. It was an experts only run as evidenced by this sign (new this year) but I have been skiing it for 30 years and was skiing well enough to handle it in control and even a bit of style: We got back to the house about 1:30 and have been just enjoying hanging around together, made a pot of chocolate fondue with fruit and lady fingers, and have been doing a bit of planning for the house we are building. The guys played in the yard with the dogs a while and DD, who is expecting in late March/early April is doing a bit of baby shopping online. Football is on, but no one is watching intently. Tonight we will probably watch the fireworks on the mountain from the front yard, do our Christmas turkey dinner since we weren'!t here on Christmas Day. Then early to bed, no ringing in the New Year for us!...See MoreMarilyn Sue McClintock
