Recommendations for self watering pot for Multiflora please

I am wondering if my Multiflora might stop dropping its buds if I put it in a self watering pot or somehow set it up to self water.

It has dropped all its buds three times now but the plant itself is growing and looks really healthy.

I am not sure self watering is the best idea so I am open to any suggestions you all have to offer.

The plant is currently in a 4" plastic pot as it came from Gardinos.

Mine is in a large clear plastic deli cup that I poked holes in, about an inch and a half up the sides. No holes in the bottom. I water it once a week in the winter, twice a week (sometimes more, if it is really hot) in the summer. Only feed once a week, either way. Once a month, I flush the cup by watering continuously for 5 minutes, no fertilizer. Mine seems to keep its buds/flowers, for the most part. If it gets a cold breeze though, off with the buds! I also have it on a heat mat, away from drafty areas.

I have one in a self watering pot from Walmart for over a year and it has only bloomed twice.I have my big one in a ceramic two piece pot self watering pot got from Big Lots...It has buds on now and tons of non active peduncles.I'm going to replant my smaller one into a net pot like some of my other hoyas.I thought self watering pots would be good for this hoya,but I'm not sure now.It was blooming much better when I first bought it at target around 10 years ago.There roots eventually rotted and i have the cuttings from it.I'm going to try a loose airy mix this time around.This hoya really likes to drop its buds a lot!The original container was peat based..so i may try half that and half pumice in the mix.I have a feeling that multiflora might like it a bit more acidic then others.

Have you seen the self-watering pots sold in Home Depot or Walmart? There is an saucer that holds quite a bit of water and when attached looks seamlessly part of the container. There is a + shape on bottom container that you can fit many pebbles like the concept in the video and you can water into the hole at the bottom. Not too useless since you want to water from the top -- I personally use the saucer as a drainage container and an battery liquid transfer pump to pump out of the excess water. Home Depot carries it in Red (terra cotta color) with the brand Spa and Walmart carries it in Green with brand Mainstays. Both are from same manufacturer. Wanting to be able to see the roots develop can come at a price. I would suggest that if you're going to site the planters outdoors in any sun, that you cover the clear plastic with something opaque, or light will pass through the clear plastic & the resultant solar (heat) gain will heat the soil to temps well beyond those where normal root function ceases. no idea on the self watering pots, but for the cost of 2 of their $38 self watering pots you can purchase a drip irrigation kit with enough drip emitters and hosing to water 25-50 pots. If you want to get even more lazy (nothing wrong with automating things ;-) you can add a fertilizer unit into your drip system for around the price of another self watering container. Wiz - the recommended ix is 1:1:1 peat -- perlite - vermiculite, plus a pinch of dolomite lime to up the Ph to 6,5, microelements and a bit of horticultural charcoal. That's why I buy my soil in the Violet Showcase by big bags - they do it for me. This mix is a variation of a Cornell soilless mix - you can google it in details. But I usually play with it some more - add more perlite for streptocarpus - and add some milled sphagnum moss for Sinningias and Kohlerias. Plus I put a layer of coarse perlite on a bottom - to increase the air flow to the roots.If you do not uuse mats - probably uyou are OK without extra perlite. Thing is - you start with something- and then experiment or try somebody's else idea - but only on 1-2 plants to see if it works or not. I do not know anything about a coarse AF soil - because usually the inexpensive brands of potting soil have composted bark or woodchips in it - and it is not good - wet wood decomposes making soil mix very acid and it absorbs nitrogen from the soil. Even when you buy Scotts or Miracle Grow AV soil - it is never consistent - but usually it is mostly peat. I would avoid a cheap allpurpose potting soil. I.

A mix of 1/8 inch perlite, 1/8 inch Orchiata bark and a few shreds of New Zealand sphagnum moss.

Try growing it in hydroton. It will bloom its head off. And an observation made by one of our members here is that in hydroton, it keeps the flowers significantly longer. (It's been so long since I've grown mine in soil that I can't remember if I noticed this when I switched over...)
