I'm not a school teacher; ....... but, it's true most sounds bats make during echolocation occur beyond range of human hearing. Our normal (human) hearing range is about 20 Hz to 15-20 kHz, where most bat vocalizations occur in the 9 kHz to to 200 kHz range - so there is some overlap there. Obviously, we can hear bats making many sounds - those made by their claws as they move while at roost or the fluttering sound of their wings, either at roost or in flight. Most humans can hear some of the sounds made when bats are in echolocation mode, and almost anyone with normal hearing, if you describe what to listen for, can hear faint clicks on calm nights while insect-eating bats are nearby and in flight, the 'click sound' being part of the chirps used during echolocation. I don't consider my hearing to be all that sharp, but just last week I did observe some bats clicking as I stood quietly watching them while waiting for my dog to finish his chore in the gloaming. Too, from a short distance, people with normal hearing would have no trouble hearing some of the vocal communication that passes between mother and pup. Al

Good morning ladies, I wasn't going to continue with my saga BUT everyone seems to be in the same boat with their children. My twenty y/o daughter did get herself a moving van at eighteen. She had a severe case of what I refer to as eighteenitis. She's twenty now and going to college to become a lawyer, problem is she has ruined her credit. She has no car or health insurance which is illegal in MA. She has overdrawn her bank account and the banks nasty messages come to my house. She got a scholarship for free tuition but never turned it in, I guess she was too busy being eighteen and all. I was paying her $2500 a year insurance bill until March when I decided, I'm not paying her rent anymore! I have free room and board here, school is twenty minutes from our home. It only makes matters worse when she calls me 3 days a week to pick her up and drive her to work at 8am and then to the second job at 5. I work too and this interferes with my job at times. She says that she'll move home if her boyfriend can sleep over. I told her he could sleep over on occasion BUT he would sleep downstairs and she would sleep upstairs. Well, you would have thought that I killed someone. She signed a new lease the next day!! I'm at my witts end with this kid, I'm not sure who's right and who's wrong anymore! Okay, I'm done. Any input ladies? am I just old fashioned or what? I would love to hear what some of you other moms out there think.

My brother had to start cooking for himself and my nephew very suddenly. My nephew was really too young to do much, and my brother worked full time, so dinners had to be quick and easy. One suggestion of mine that he took to quite well was to buy the family size packages of meat to save money, separate them into meal-sized portions, and freeze the meats in zip lock bags with marinade. That way, he removes a bag from the freezer before bed, and by dinner time the following day, he has pre-marinated meat to throw on the grill or under the broiler. I did get him a rice cooker, which he likes because both he and my nephew will eat rice plain or with just a bit of soy, which keeps the fat grams down (as opposed to most potatoes or noodles, which must have some butter or sauce). His girlfriend gave him a crock pot, and a crock pot cookbook which gets a lot of use as well. They also eat lots of salads, which they both like. I told him to cut the stem end off when he got the lettuces home, and soak them in a sink full of cool water for a couple of hours before draining them and putting them in a plastic bag with a towel to soak up any residual moisture, They keep nicely for a week or so that way, and he keeps a container of pre-cut salad vegetables in the fridge so making a salad is fast and easy. Planning is the key, all right. A couple of hours on the weekend, and the week can go much more smoothly.
