What is wrong with this tree? About to die?
Comments (16)a tree that does not leaf is dead .. plums.. in tree time.. are short lived trees .. because of various issues ... your is huge.. overly mature.. and way past its prime ... not to mention having gummosis ... with your lot size .. i would not bother with the cost of stump grinding.. just have them cut flush to the ground.. so the lawnmower can pass right over the stump ... and enjoy the world of mushrooms which will follow ... as the root mass decays over the years ... both stumps should be treated with stump killer, by the contractor .. it may be a waste on the dead one.. but what the heck .. my logic.. if the dudes are coming.. have them do everything at once .. half the cost is getting them there ..... that would include your other post ... in the alternative ... since the plum is out in the middle of nowhere.. a threat to nothing... you could spend the next few years.. to decade.. watching it die and break apart ... so be it.. the circle of life ... its not really anything to be sad about ... ken...See MoreWhat’s wrong with this tree?
Comments (4)Rose of Sharon....where do you live? It's probably frost cracking caused by rapid temperature changes. Plant draws water up the xylem and becomes saturated on very warm days followed by a rapid drop in temperature and subsequent expansion on freezing. The poor condition of the plant isn't solely a result of that crack but the same conditions that led to cracking likely severely damaged the rest of the tree....See MorePlease help - what is wrong with this tree?
Comments (5)by sept i am not much worried by leaf damage on deciduous trees ... they are going to fall off.. soon enough ... early fall damage.. or early leaf fall ... is dependent on a myriad of weather events since spring ... like drought.. heavy rain .. high extended heat ... ridiculous humidity ... etc.. etc.. etc ... whats been your weather since spring ...??? imo ... a secondary problem ... no matter what it is ... like leaf spot or whatever ... doesnt really address whatever caused the problem ... which is most likely long gone ... and there is nothing you can do for these leaves that will 'heal' them.. or make them look any better.. or make them hang on the tree longer ... using embo's leads above.. you might figure out whats going on ... but even if you do .... there really isnt.. imo.. anything to do about it this time of year .... but.. as always.. the search for knowledge is always good.. and approved ... i simply wouldnt worry about this tree .. but just for the heck of it.. perhaps i you gave us a pic of the whole tree.. we might see something else ... but i doubt it ... and i bet my shiny penny.. i will tell you i have a half dozen trees in my yard.. that look worse ... i also wouldnt be surprised.. if in the next few weeks.. you will see other trees on the area doing the same thing ... now that you noticed yours .... ken...See MoreAnyone have any idea what is wrong with this tree?
Comments (4)its is extremely stressed ... you are not its grandma ... feeding it wont make it feel better ... see link below.. about timing.. and watering ... next time you bring a pot home.. put it in full shade ... to give you a few extra days ... nothing needs water every day ... water when the plant needs water.. insert finger and find out.. its you soil.. your local weather.. etc.. only you can figure it out ... if you perfect the watering.. and the plant settles down.. it can releaf ... as long as a leaf if green is can process light into energy ... dont cut them off or anything ... ken https://sites.google.com/site/tnarboretum/Home/planting-a-tree-or-shrub...See Morelilion
