Starting Herb Garden for health issues.
Comments (6)Sorry, I have no books to suggest :-( But then I grow herbs only for culinary purposes, not for medicinal purposes, so what I grow is a much narrower selection than what you list. FWIW, somethings are just not worth it from seed. I don't need an entire pack of seeds when just one or two plants will serve the same purpose and for not much more than the same price. And with an ability to harvest almost immediately. Horseradish is a very hardy garden perennial, will last you for years and should not/cannot be grown indoors. Ditto with garlic and all of the trees :-)) And I would never bother with growing ginger (a tropical plant, as is the tumeric) when you can easily buy a chunk of fresh ginger root at any grocery. Same with garlic. Depending on where you are located, local nurseries or even grocery stores may have starts of common herbs for sale now, often in small 4" pots. Otherwise, you may want to wait until spring. And I would encourage you to investigate planting as much as you can outside, either in the ground or in containers. And when resorting to already prepared or harvested medicinal plants or herbs, I'd suggest you look for those that are sold in bulk as opposed to jarred or bottled, as they will be much fresher. My local grocery sells a huge range of herbs in bulk including cinnamon bark and juniper berries. Natural or health food stores should have a decent selection of raw ingredients or essential oils as well....See MoreHealth issue - Bedroom conversions
Comments (10)Did you see this from Houzz posted yesterday? https://www.houzz.com/houzz-tv/watch-now-5-design-principles-to-support-wellness-at-home-stshtvvw-vt~135005573 You may not wish to share what exact health issues but that will need to be addressed in order for the best solutions to come forth. If you don’t wish to do this on a public forum then consider professional help. When I hear ‘health issues’ and ‘ranch house’ I think of door opening sizes? Turn radiuses and hallway sizes? Flooring transitions? Door knobs vs levers and so much more. And then of course there would be the obstacles you face with your exact health issues. Not to mention the issues with opening up a wall - which you will need to get a licensed contractor there to review the viability and cost of opening up any wall....See MoreUpdate on Health Issues
Comments (60)Thank you all for these wonderful comments of support and encouragement! Tina, proton beam therapy is available but it works best for prople who have localized tumors that can be targeted, sparing adjacent tissue. DH’s entire prostate is involved, and there are other factors that make foocused beam radiation a less desirable course than surgery first, then radiation but (from mylimited understanding) irradiation of a wider area of the surgical bed. But, after the surgery and pathology of the tumors and lymph nodes we will have a better idea of what happens next. Another wrinkle here…. my mother was supposed to have until January 31 to vacate her condo, which is closing tomorrow. The buyer has an offer on her home that must be really good as she is offering my mom a significant incentive to move before the end of December. I was able to move up the painting and other work so Mom’s move will now happen Dec. 20th— which to her is at the speed of light. I know it will all be fine in the end but I have a very nervous woman on my hands right now 😳 edited to clarify / give a more accurate response to Tina about decision re proton beam therapy....See MoreHelp! Comments (14)Lara Zone 10 If the rose was sufficiently damaged upon arrival, I’d ask for replacement. However, they may have become damaged more since left in bag. Now aid cut off any total black cane parts. If they are slightly brown & green they are usually fine. I think the white spots you are referring look like brown spots to me? If the majority of the cane is green I’d keep it. The white canes will green up in sun light… frequently I have them come white & green up quickly. You only need 2-3 good canes to grow a fabulous rose bush. It is up to you, but I may have prune it back to a 6 inch cane or less if I don’t like how the cane looks. All that grows afterwards is “healthy fresh new canes.” You live in zone 10-so you are going to get tons of growth & tall growth with all that sun eventually. So I wouldn’t worry about what you decided to prune back. I like new growth w/new soft green thorns & new pretty canes. Anything you don’t like-just remove it. It’s really your preference. You can train the rose to look like what you want. Have fun! Happy Gardening!...See MoreUser
