The Oscars last night
Comments (72)I didn't watch a whole lot of it, maybe half an hour or so - I get bored easily with awards shows, they're just public m@sturb@tion AFAIC - but WHAT was it with the one-shoulder thing this year? Seemed like every third woman had on a one-shoulder dress (and most of them not particularly flattering). I thought there were quite a few "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" ;-) gowns in the part I saw. Zoe Saldana's purple fluffy number with the train - which reminded me of the crepe paper carnations that we all made in kindergarten for Mother's Day - and when she and that other woman in a black similarly-overdone thing (I think it was Carey Mulligan?) went down to the mike to present an award neither one could even walk in their gowns. Molly Ringwald's stylist should have been slapped for letting her out of the dressing room in that flappy purple thing. Lot of "fleshtone" dresses this year too, which was a little creepy. I did think Meryl Streep's gown was simultaneously age-appropriate and very elegant. I also enjoyed watching her laugh so many times, she looked like she has a really infectious, hearty laugh instead of the typical Hollywood titter. Mo'Nique looked sharp too, I thought - making absolutely no apologies for her size and I dug the diagonal pleating pattern. At first I was kind of "huh?" about the hair ornament but I decided I liked it....See MoreOscar Fashions any one?
Comments (45)Did not watch the Oscars but looked through a few red carpet photo sites the morning after. While I agree there weren't any big winners this year, neither were there a lot of huge losers, either....mostly everyone looked presentable, at least. That light blue dress.....the fabric looked so cheap. I know it wasn't, of course, but it looked like fake fortuny with rhinestones. And Pink...what's up with the regulation short haircut brushed up stiff like that, or making long hair look like that? Pink, Jennifer Lawrence, several others. Kate Hudson, a roger rabbit refugee, brilliant, Annie! And finally, Pink's rendition of Over the Rainbow? I find it very sad that every singer has to sing songs with that vocal adornment technique that used to be reserved for soul music in the 70s. Now it is used to disguise or compensate for narrow vocal ranges and the fact that the voice cannot sustain long notes on an even tone. Nowadays a singer is a person who can sing enough, and has some schtick that makes him or her famous. Most of today's singers actually have terrible voices. The likes of Judy Garland, Karen Carpenter, Cass Elliott, Patsy Kline, Barbara Streisand and others with true star quality voices are mostly gone. Lea Michele is one singer who sometimes uses that type of vocalization but doesn't need it, and she would have killed that song at the Oscars....See MoreOscar Night Party
Comments (8)Not my house. My friend just moved there about 6 months ago. They scaled down from a 4200 square foot house to 2200 sq ft. They completely remodeled it before moving in and it's really lovely. Yes, Liz. We all put in a dollar and we had several sheets of questions to vote on. One of my friends is a computer guru and she does a great job. I'm sad to say I didn't win. I didn't vote on who I thought should win, I voted on who I thought Hollywood would vote on. They surprised me. LOL Glenda, I love the name "giggles" even though I'm not a giggler....See MoreFashion Talk....wedding dress of Barbara Bush
Comments (28)The problem is, had this been a regular wedding dress, nobody would be talking about the poor fit. Knowing this is a Vera wang, whose prices for wedding dresses are stratospheric, makes the fit a big issue. What are regular people to do if people who can pay big bucks have this to show for their effort? And yes, the couple and whole family looked wonderful. I particularly liked Laura Bush’s Wedgewood dress....See Moremaire_cate
