Am I the only one who can't sleep? Hope you don't mind me Venting
Comments (16)ilene-84, Happy Birthday to your Dad! Is he a WW II vet? I hope all the medical issues are behind you and your family now. Spring is around the corner and it's such a great time of year. And, I'm sure when your kitchen is all done, it will be great simply because it has been a labor of love. It's good to know I am not the only one sleeping terribly. I wake up every day with a terrible headache and neck pain. I also wake up in the middle of the night repeatedly adding up cabinet sizes, trying to make a list of events of what should come next, what goes and doesn't go, if I do this then I have to do that and the infamous DID I MAKE A MISTAKE and what are my options now if I decide to change the layout. I started keeping a pen and paper on the night table to be able to jot down the ideas and make notes. However, one kitty is a pen thief, the other is a paper tearer. So when I get up to find the pen, big doggie has to come over and inquire as to what I am doing but more so to make sure he is not missing out on a food tidbit. Then DH starts in, what's wrong, is everything okay . . . it's so pitiful I have to laugh because I would cry. Now I try to get back into bed and find out that another kitty has stolen my warm spot and I just can't bear to move them so to the couch for me where I wonder, I just left that bed with all of them so how did we fit on there before! At least I'm off the kitchen biz. So much for the couch idea. There is usually the shy rescue cat there who so prefers DH to me. Then if I manage to lay down, it's impossible to get my back comfortable but then I finally fall asleep out of sheer exhaustion and then there is DH waking me, come back to bed, you know the couch is no good for your back. Argh . . just leave me be! This is a daily routine for us. I almost want to quit my day job and get a night job just so I don't have to go to sleep. I am sure also that the massive amounts of junk food I am eating is not helping the situation either. I am actually craving veggies so I don't know what that says about the diet. But in the end I will have a nice enough kitchen that I have built out of a labor of love. I am so looking forward to cooking again for us so hang in there! Christine, thanks for sharing your perspective on things. I must say you must be one strong resilient woman! You go girl....See MoreExtreme Reno fatigue
Comments (23)Thanks everyone for the pep talk, I feel better knowing I'm not being lazy and that we have actually accomplished a lot. My current to do list is Finish tiling the mudroom floor so I can move the desk back in and get it out of my dining room Tile the pantry floor so I can FINALLY get my food out of all the totes Paint and install all the trim Stain and finish my wet bar Install pulls on the wet bar Install counter on wet bar Install sink in wet bar Things I can enjoy: In the main part of my kitchen, all the cabinets, counters, lights and appliances are installed and fully functional. I actually HAVE a dining room to eat in now instead of serving meals in the living room (NOT fun w/messy eaters and carpet) I now have TONS of natural light flooding my house thanks to opening up walls and adding windows and a French door to the backyard Last week, instead of working on the reno, my wonderful husband opened up our pool AND he bought a hot tub yesterday that I got to enjoy last night with a stiff drink. Once the kids are in bed, I think I will grab a drink and go sit in the hot tub with hubby to celebrate his birthday and not think about the reno for a while. Maybe we will even have some cookie dough. That or the key lime pie I made him. :)...See MoreSo, so upset with major purchase
Comments (150)UPDATE: So I received an answer from the owner of the store who is hanging with the manufacturer in the USA right now. He brought the furniture back to the builder and discussed the issues I had with it. He explained his policy as this is custom ordered, not just taken from a shelf. They have never sold this set as painted before, they cannot give a refund until they try to solve the issues with the product. The painter was different from the builder and had the builder seen it it wouldn't have passed inspection. So the owner and manufacturer are proposing that when the owner goes down to the US again at the end of October, he will bring back beautiful furniture that is painted by the manufacturer who has experience painting kitchen cabs and will be inspected by the owner of the manufacture company. Then before it is delivered to our house, we will go to the store to inspect it. So they have my 4K and I'm not getting furniture for another 2 months. So now what? It's not just the finishing, cross bars were cracked and the backs were hacked (as per the pics!). It sounds like they will fix the cosmetic stuff, but I don't know. I just have such a bad taste in my mouth about this whole thing now. The owner of the local store says he is in the US and doesn't get internet most of the time, so I can contact him next week. Do you think I have enough to open a formal dispute with the cc company, or because they are trying to fix it I'm stuck with it? THANK you for all your advice and wisdom!...See MoreThis is a cry for help, or sympathy I guess. (pic)
Comments (128)Hi, everyone. I'm five days out of surgery, feeling good most of the time, taking 1/3 of the pain medications I could be taking, and can't wait to bounce around in that kitchen, as you say, muspic. Marytw, I keep forgetting to ask for ice, and they don't seem to furnish it without being asked these days. I agree that the workmanship is a delight; this man built multimillion dollar homes in California before coming to Colorado, and tile is one of the things he likes to do himself. It looked a bit too pink to me the first evening after the tile was installed, and I was scared to go into the kitchen the next morning, but overnight the pink had resolved into a more gold/brown look and the kitchen is so much brighter and a more pleasant place altogether. I won't be home to admire it for another week and a half, but it's a completely different-feeling kitchen. DH says the deck is going up correctly and we're looking forward to correcting the windows and restuccoing. Virtual hugs and huge thanks to all of you. I really would never have gotten through this without you, and feeling good in one's kitchen is a big thing, not a little thing, as we all know. I wish you all huge success in your projects, and I'll keep admiring your progress!...See Morebarncatz
