Hi Vettin. Flagrant is a seeding of General MacArthur. It has turned out to be a small climber, probably a good pillar rose. It has a lovely fragrance. After the spring bloom it doesn't bloom heavily. It acts like a lot of HPs. It's not especially disease resistant but isn't overcome by fungus. I'm pleased that you have expressed an interest in it.

'Clementina Carbonieri' is a beautiful rose: healthy, thrifty, with good foliage and sunset-colored flowers. My plants are slow growing but they also live in tough conditions; in time the plant will get big--my parent plant is about 6'x6', at a guess. I hear that the blooms fry in the heat. The flowers are usually smallish and semi-double, but if the plant is well fed and watered and gets a run of mild weather, it can produce large, double blooms, like a fluorescent version of a David Austin rose. The scent is of Tea: fresh, dry and woody. I highly recommend this rose. Melissa

I have a young plant of Hoag House Cream. It had trouble getting established in my garden - I had to dig it out and put it back into a pot. It has been very slow to get going - but we have had a very cold summer, so perhaps it won't apply to you. The fragrance is amazing! It gave me only two blooms though so far - creamy fleshy color, doesn't quite look like the HMF pictures but my plant has had trouble growing. Sorry, not much help, but I will definitely keep it for awhile. Very full blooms, lots of petals, didn't ball. No mildew, don't know about blackspot. Masha

Try searching for R.pomifera 'Duplex' or R.villosa. I also love this rose (and expect Pam (MendocinoR) to be along in a moment, equally enthused. I have been watching your rose list with some amusement (and envy) and feel I can detect a pattern forming.....a definite leaning towards large untidy and generous roses, not a million miles from their wildling ancestors......in which case, Wolley-Dod is just the ticket. Still, in the interests of full disclosure (and not just our usual enabling fervour), it is a ruffianly rose for me, throwing out wild canes with abandon and does get a bit blackspotty late in the year. It grows like a briar, without the furious prickles of that tribe and has especially lovely foliage, a faded leaden green which is perfectly in harmony with the loose, deeply romantic flowers. Mine grows around the apple cordons (my little joke, the apple rose with the rosy apples) and looks at home in an untidy hedgerow way....which is its great charm. Also, it has quite astonishing heps (always a plus) which are sought after (I am informed) by afficionados of rosehep jam and such. A lovely rose, worth a space in any garden.
