Comments (4)Seafoam is a cleaner. Auto part stores, marinas etc carry it. Think of it like Gumout/ STP fuel additive, with the exception that it actually works well. I swear lots of this stuff is just diesel fuel in a bottle, but I'm pretty un-informed on their chemical make up really... You can introduce it through the carb w/ the filter removed and use it in the fuel and oil. New oil is a great start. Marvel oil is a good lube for such things as well....See Moreallergies/asthma/coughing attack.....
Comments (23)We must have been posting at the same time...... Sable - he does wheeze during his coughing attack. Luckily my FIL is a doc & he has come by daily to check his lungs. That is great about your son taking care of his own meds.....shoot, I'm just trying to get this boy to remember to brush his teeth daily when he wakes up!! Golddust - he has a major sinus infection now. They did a CT scan & showed the cavities or rather not showing the maxillary cavity b/c it is so congested. Segbrown - I am glad Flonase is working for you. My DH uses that also. We are using inhalers that have the fine powder that comes out - he was having a difficult time knowing when to inhale & push the inhaler. I find myself wanting to twist & cock the inhaler for him but he has to be able to do it himself & he does. Total fluke about getting tested for allergies.....I had an appointment b/c of a rash on my arm. Asthma doc & FIL worked together many years ago so FIL tells me to take my DS with me to my appointment just to make sure he was not missing anything. So, I call to ask if I can bring my son & Dr. says yes. Well, after they did that testing on his back - my rash was never mentioned!! I am so grateful that we took him and had him tested b/c this explains so much. I am totally rambling but I really appreciate the support. Smiles:)...See Morepost nasal drip and constant coughing
Comments (13)Hi - Original poster here. I was digging around the net about post nasal drip and noticed that some people had some success with nasal irrigation. Basically you stand with your head over the sink and gently pour or spray a weak salt water solution in your nose. The water and all the gunk that's making you cough come out your nose into the sink. I tried it on myself using the infant nose aspirator to see how it worked. Not exactly pleasant but not horrible either. After much prodding, I persuaded my daughter to try it. We were amazed at the difference it made. (We were also amazed by all the stuff that came out of her head.) Her coughing and gagging have decreased by 75%. If you have post nasal drip, I suggest you try it....See Morekennel cough and cats can they catch it????
Comments (13)From http://www.fabcats.org/catflu2.html "Bordetella bronchiseptica This bacterial infection has become recognised as a problem in cats only recently. Although well known in other species, until 10 years ago it was not really reported in the general cat population. In breeding colonies, in combination with FHV and/or FCV, it can cause fatal pneumonia, with death of entire litters within hours or days. On its own (in experimental studies) this bacterium usually causes a mild nasal discharge and perhaps a slight cough. In experimental studies there also appears to be a carrier state, and queens have been shown to shed bordetella in the post-kittening period. The role of bordetella in cat flu is still being investigated and several studies on this bacterium are in progress. It is now possible for researchers to 'type' different strains and what makes some strains cause disease is an area under active study. Using this strain typing system, it has also been shown that this bacterium has, in a small number of cases, been transmitted from dogs (in which it causes kennel cough) to cats". Labmomma - Actually there are a good number of zoonotic illnesses that can be transmitted from dogs to humans, not just rabies and lepto. Worms, ringworm, scabies, lyme disease. The first link below reports that Bordetella is also something that can be spread to humans. Rare events but possible.
