I think I have made an Executive decision this morning
Comments (8)I don't think I'd want to set cups in storage boxes without drainage holes and wouldn't want to ruin mine by punching holes in them. Why not set them in a cardboard box, cut down if necessary, work out drainage in the bottom, and cover with plastic? If the cardboard starts to fall apart, use another one. Or come up with an innovation of your own. I start a lot of my seeds in the spring outside in deli containers, drainage holes cut in bottom and vented at the top. As soon as they sprout, take the lids off and mist. Some I'm going to mix my pro mix which I think has fungicide with potting soil. Anyway, I only do the carryout containers for things I'm going to transplant into cell packs, slice up and plop on top of soil in plastic cups to grow on a bit, then plant with my bulb planter. Or you could plant HOS in a shallow depression in the ground scooped out. I suppose you could WS those but soil might be too shallow and you'd have to move faster when they sprout. The bulk of my winter sowing, I use gallon milk jugs like they say on the WS forum, I don't want to cut mine with the oven door method but cut almost in two leaving a hinge at the base of the handle, then tape, using packing tape from now on as duct tape too hard to pull off. Also going to use half gallon jugs and tape or tie them together in groups of four (for stability) for seeds I want to sow more sparsely. When it's safe enough, I open them up and peg the jug tops to the ground thru the opening at the top with pieces of bamboo until I'm ready to plant them, can hold a lot of stuff for most of the summer and still be ok. They say to get the jugs off the ground so they drain better, haven't tried that. I also punch at least 1/4" drainage holes in my gallon jugs w/a woodburning tool (it smells so may have to go outside or basement), 12 per jug, 3 per section....See MoreAlmost done, last few decisions I need help on please.
Comments (3)oh.. okay a palette .. that makes sense! I was trying to just play it safe and pick some commonly used colors, but I like where your going. I had a friend come over with some chips (these were from H.Depot&Rest.Hardware)I like the tans she picked. M.Stewart Living - Pebble Stone MSL214 and R.Hard. Cappucino. Unfortunately my SW store is closed today so I can't check out their Latte. Luckily for me, BM store is open! Really I just need to get ceiling and myb. wall paint today, but as you say. I need to decide on wall before I decide on ceiling. I think I like a more grey tan. http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?navAction=jump&id=prod1048003 I'm afraid if I take one of these chips my friend brought over for color matching it won't work well off a chip. Maybe I'll just take them in and see what BM chip matches closely. I was also considering a green and a rust color to accent with. Have you ever seen Behr SH320 Enchanting Ginger (rust)? I picked this one and everyone that sees it isn't too crazy about it but I really like it. I was just going to accent with it. Possible Greens: (Both Behr samps) UL190-21 Ginko Tree and UL190-2 Deserted Island. So other than the ceiling and trim is this starting to sound like a palette? This is an old 1926 Bungalow with an open floor plan but only about 900 sq ft. It has some fun archways too that I thought the idea is to just paint them white underneath and inside(?). For now we'll just keep priming, but I need to decide soon. My buddy says just pick one and lets paint. I guess I'm just kinda picky about colors for a guy :) Thanks for any help/input/advice and feedback! Steven...See MoreNeed Tile Decision Help Again Please! Please Vote!
Comments (19)I'd vote for the basketweave (and not just because I used the floral on the wall in my kitchen). Mosaics generally aren't slippery - the grout lines make them grippier than a lot of large(r) format tiles. I have these crappy white 6x6's in every bathroom in this house (ugh) and you could like to kill yourself on those with wet feet. The issue with the floral is that onyx can be fragile. I got a pretty decent lot, but I also hand inspected every single sheet, removed the "uglies" and used two sheets to replace the rejected pieces. The marble also has some very distinct gray (which does not appear in your limestone) but does appear in my Corian, so I'm not bothered by it. And yes, I did use bright white grout and no, I would never use traditional white sanded grout on a bathroom floor. At a tile shop you'd likely have more choices in the white/cream family. I just think that overall the basketweave is a stronger choice for your space. If you got a very grey lot of the floral you'd be even more behind on tile - and stuck with it to boot. Comments (12)I'm using Picture Painter. It's pretty limited when it comes to importing pictures and doesn't do horizontal repetitions very well, so I did the side wall with it and the back wall with Paint to see if the colors came out any better. This is probably the best I can do. To get your photo on there, I have to straighten it in Picasa, then crop to just the tile wanted, then upload to the program. All that distorts the image a bit and Picture Painter's standard is to have 50% transparency which makes the colors not true without adjusting the saturation. That's why I think photoshop must be easier. Hopefully, someone who has that will take a crack at your photos....See Moresherri1058
